Pip Hair - A Gentleman and Outstanding Darts Player
We^ve received some very sad news at Red Dragon Darts. Here^s an email that we received from Neil Hart of York Darts Promotions.
It is with sadness and great regret that we announce one of Yorks most popular darts players and true gentlemen Pip Hair has sadly passed away, suddenly and peacefully, aged 58, at York Hospital. Pip loved his darts but loved the people who played the game more. He was known as a true gentleman both on and off the oche who loved to win but was always gracious in defeat.
He started playing for his local pub, the Royal Oak in Copmanthorpe, at the tender age of 15 and won the individual title before reaching the age of 18. Playing in the double board league many trophies and titles soon followed. He had a break from the game to concentrate on family life, which was always a priority to him but has been a regular back on the York darts scene over the last 12 years.
Many magical moments followed which included introducing his son Tom to the game. Together they travelled to many destinations, playing the game they both loved, which included Blackpool, Prague, Malta and Glasgow just to name a few and so many fond memories that Tom will have to cherish.
Pip played in both the Yorkshire and Humberside Super Leagues in recent years and really enjoyed his local darts playing for both clubs in Huntington. Many a Friday night was spent with friends chucking a few arrows and he had so much fun teaching darts to 4 year old grandson Charlie.
Tom said "The support the family have received from the darts community has been overwhelming" adding "along with my mum, Sue and sister Sophie we are so very grateful for this".
A celebration of Pips life will be held at York Crematorium on Friday 25th October at 3.40pm followed by the wake at the Marcia in Bishopthorpe with donations being made to St Leonard^s Hospice, for whom Pip had just completed a sponsored bike ride from Morecambe to Bridlington.
He was a loved man and will be very sorely missed by his family, friends and all the darts fraternity.
Kind Regards
Neil Hart
