Price Double 9-Darter Price
The World Number 1 Gerwyn Price put on an explosive display winning over the Belfast crowd in the SSE Arena last night. He hit two 9-dart finishes on the way to his first Premier League 1st place finish.
The first man in the path of Price in night 3 of the Premier League was Michael ‘Bully Boy’ Smith. Perfect Price was looking to take revenge on the man who took him out of the World Championships. The Iceman started quickly, going 3-1 up and eventually closing the game out 6-3 with an outstanding 170 finish.
The semi-final saw the Price take on Dutchman MvG, who took out Joe Cullen on the way to the semi-final. Both players brought their A-game to the oche, hitting massive 108.9 and 106.5 averages. The Iceman edged out the game 6-5 and also hit his first 9 darter of the night in the 5th leg of the game.
The ‘Machine’ James Wade took out last week’s Premier League winner Jonny Clayton and double World Champion Peter Wright on the way to meeting Price in the finals. The 2009 Premier league winner put on a show, managing to keep up with Price despite Price hitting his 2nd 9 darter in the 3rd leg of the game. Going into the 9th set the score was 4-4 and Gezzy managed to seal off the win 6-4 with an impressive 105 average to Wade’s 94 average.
"Tonight, I felt like I couldn't miss," Price reflected. "I feel on top of the world right now. I told James in the practice room [before the final] I was going to hit another one, I just fancied it tonight. But, as well as I played tonight, I could've possibly lost in two games which shows how high the standard is at the moment. That's how well I've been playing recently, I'm feeling good in myself. I put it down to being been back in the gym and looking after myself. The last two-and-a-half weeks I've been putting some hard work in at the gym.
Gerwyn Price is now a part of an exclusive club, only joined by darting legend Phil Taylor to be the only 2 players to hit 2 9-darters on a premier league night.
The Cazoo Premier League roadshow returns to Westpoint Exeter on Thursday March 3 for Night Four of the league phase, as Price meets Wright in a clash of the world's top two.
The night's other quarter-finals will see Clayton meet Van Gerwen, Wade take on Anderson and Smith face Cullen as the £1 million tournament continues at the sold-out Exeter venue.
The Cazoo Premier League is being broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK, through the PDC's worldwide broadcast partners including DAZN and Viaplay, and on PDCTV for Rest of the World Subscribers (excluding UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria & Switzerland).
