GERWYN PRICE reckons he can “kick up the backside” team-mate Jonny Clayton and go for BetVictor World Cup glory!
The Welsh start their campaign off in Hamburg tonight against the tricky Singapore duo including legend Paul Lim.
The fiery dragons have come so close to success over recent years as twice beaten finalists and now Price wants to end their ‘nearly men’ tag.
He said: “Jonny, over the last couple of weeks, hasn’t played pretty well.
“But in the last couple of months, he’s been in good form. Hopefully, with a kick up his backside, he’ll be alright!
“We’re in with a good shout. We’re a good pairing, good friends, and I’m looking forward to it.”
Price has been outstanding this year so far, narrowly missing out on the Premier League semi-finals and will be a driving force for the Welsh this weekend.
Only Netherlands and England have won this tournament so far but with untried pairings, The Iceman senses an opportunity.
But Singapore are the giant-killing kings having knocking out the Scots two years ago while another tough tie awaits with Japan.
He added: “I think one of the top four teams – Holland, Wales, Scotland, and England – one of those teams is going to win.
“First round’s always difficult. It’s pairs all the way through, and I don’t really like that sort of play
“You don’t really get a chance to get any rhythm – but it’s the same as any tournament, the first game’s always tough.
“If we come through that, we’ll be a real force in this tournament.”
