PUB DARTS TEAMS INVITED TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL KNOCK OUT COMPETITION IN AID OF HELP FOR HEROES

Pub darts teams from all over the UK are invited to take part in a national knock out darts competition that will raise money for Help for Heroes. Each team, featuring five players and two reserves, will compete in regional heats before heading for the grand final and a £5,000 cash prize for each winning men’s and women’s teams.

Teams each pay £50 to enter with a percentage of the entrance money being donated to Help for Heroes, founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded Servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

The competition has already earned the support of Darts legend Eric Bristow MBE. Eric, the ‘Crafty Cockney’, said: “For generations, the Great British pub darts teams created some of the best players in the world. This competition is a great way of reminding people what they used to enjoy in a good night out and reinstalling some of that old fashioned community spirit back as well as supporting an extremely worthwhile charity.”

Eric will also be at the finals which will take place over Bank Holiday weekend on 29th and 30th May 2011 at Dartex Live, held at Birmingham’s NEC, where the top 16 teams, men’s and women’s, battle it out to be the last two teams standing. The last two will head into the Grand Final on the main stage to see which team is crowned the champions. Eric will be joined by a host of famous names including fellow legends John Lowe, Bobby George and Keith Deller, current players Ted Hankey and Co Stompé, and darts personalities such as Bullseye’s Tony Green to name but a few.

To enter, teams need to register online (www.dartexlive.com) before 1st October and will need to list all team members. Teams from each region will then be drawn at random and notified of their opponents. Each team member will play best of five 501 games with straight starts and a double to finish.

Dartex Live will also feature master classes by World top ranking players, the chance for visitors to take on professional darts players, a ‘Meet and Greet’, and various competitions including a Nine Darts Charity Challenge to win a Mercedes by throwing the perfect 501. There will also be a Retail Village with around 50 exhibitors offering darts equipment, memorabilia and gadgets.
