Red Dragon 2017 Welsh Individual Championships

Whitland Dairy Sports & Social Club played host to the Red Dragon 2017 Welsh Individual Championships on Sunday 23rd July. Both Men and Ladies qualifiers from member counties; Breconshire, Clwyd, Glamorgan, Gwent, Gwnynedd Montgomery & Radnor and Pembrokeshire all decended upon the Club in Carmarthenshire to battle it out for the title, the winners also being invited to the Winmau World Masters and Women’s World Individual Championships. Breconshire’s Mark Layton lifted the Men’s title with a convincing 6-0 victory in the final against Peter Johns. Layton hit an impressive 30.67 average which included a 118 checkout in the final leg to whitewash the man from Gwent, securing both the trophy and a place at the Winmau World Masters. The woman from Gwent made her way past Allanah Waters 4-2 before defeating Natalie Evans to book her place in the final.
