Article: RED DRAGON TRIO ROCKING BLACKPOOL

RED DRAGON TRIO ROCKING BLACKPOOL

Red Dragon stars Peter Wright, Ian White and Gerwyn Price have been causing a stir at the World Matchplay with some electrifying performances at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

The trio have all reached the quarter-final stage at the prestigious tournament, having come through some tough draws with stylish displays this week.

Wright, who is set to break into the top four on the PDC Order of Merit for the first time, quickly became one of the star performers when he swept past Kim Huybrechts in round one with a dominant display.

‘Snakebite’ lit up Blackpool with a brilliant 108 average against his Belgian Premier League rival, taking out a 161 checkout to seal the win.

The UK Open and Japan Darts Masters finalist then saw off Andrew Gilding to set up a last-eight clash with fellow Red Dragon Ambassador Gerwyn Price, who has been creating his very own fairy tale at the Winter Gardens.

The Welsh former professional Rugby ace upset the odds and earned a convincing 10-4 win against Michael Smith in the first round but he wasn’t finished there.

Price really turned on the style to knock out two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis in the last 16, hitting eight 180s in the process, marking his arrival at the top of the sport.

White has also been one of the tournament’s top performers, grabbing impressive wins against Stephen Bunting and Simon Whitlock to set up a quarter-final showdown against Michael van Gerwen.

Wright versus Price and White against van Gerwen take place on Thursday evening, when we’ll find out which of the Red Dragon stars can roar into the last four.
