Simon ‘The Wizard’ Whitlock has re-signed with Winmau, the world’s leading darts brand, for a further five years the company announced today.
The Australian ace began his relationship with the company in 2010, just after he competed in the finals of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Championships.
During that time, in addition to representing Winmau at tournaments around the world, Whitlock will continue to work with Winmau’s technicians to develop his range of distinctive 22g and 24g steeltip and 18g and 20g softip darts and other equipment.
Currently ranked 16 in the PDC Order of Merit, Whitlock is known for his deadly accuracy on the doubles.
Whitlock has also competed in the finals of the British Darts Organisation (BDO) World Championships, as well as the finals of the World Cup of Darts alongside compatriot and fellow Team Winmau member, Paul Nicholson. In 2012 he secured his first major – the European Championship in which he beat Wes Newton in the final.
More recently, Whitlock has returned to fine form with 5 PDC Pro Tour wins since October 2016.
“Simon’s attention to detail is staggering,” says Ian Flack, Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director. “He works incredibly hard at his game and the last few years has seen him regain the form that has made him one of the world’s best players. He works tirelessly with our technicians to develop darts that suit his game perfectly. I am delighted that Simon will be staying with us for another five years.”
Whitlock adds: “Finishing runner-up in the 2010 PDC World Championships changed my life and enabled me to move to the UK and compete on the PDC Pro Tour. The backing of Winmau and my other sponsors has helped me to stay here and enabled me to focus on improving my game. Darts is such a tough business and without the backing of Winmau the challenge would be so much harder. Their passion for the game is ceaseless and their desire to help me realise my potential is awesome. The last seven years with Winmau have been fantastic and I am looking forward to the next five.”
