In order to improve your dart game, there are three easy adjustments you can think about making with your stance, grip, and focus. It might seem like slight changes, but these adjustments can have a big impact on how well you throw darts and how much fun you have doing it.Let’s take a look at each of these tips and see how they will help you throw better darts.
Grip
We’re looking to have a grip that is flexible and allows the wrist to operate in its full capacity like a wheel within a wheel when releasing the dart. The grip pressure should be between 2 and 6 out of 10 and never too tight that it makes the throw very wooden and stiff. It may take several sessions but ensure you are continually feeling on your grip pressure does not over tighten during your sessions, that can affect the muscle memory process in the way we aim.
Stance
The stance width is very important and must be set so that the player can withstand the recoil of the dart throw, so requires a solid athletic base with which to work from. The best way to achieve your perfect stance is to address the dartboard and have a friend etc gently push your shoulder to see if you remain solid and responsive.
Balance
Balance is the mark of any great sportsman and it is no different in darts, as the micro-movements required in darts to hit a tiny target require superb balance and poise. This balance is a result of getting the principles of grip, stance and posture all as one with breathing calm and relaxed. While you can only train these skills through dedicated practice, there are also some basic exercises like squats and lunges (for flexibility). One thing to remember while Maintaining an upright posture using your core muscles is essential to help focus keeping your eyes fixed on a particular point when you are actually playing rather than staring ahead at nothing in particular. Remember aim small miss small!
Sighting Line
In order to throw the most perfectly straight darts that we can, we must stand in a way that lets our eyes see directly straight at the dartboard, with the eyes level in the head and not slanted. The throwing arm elbow must not be sticking out, and the dart should feel as though it is being pushed directly at the dartboard. If you do these things correctly, your arm muscles won’t have to work hard so there will be less fatigue and your hand speed will go up dramatically. Try not to put too much weight forward onto your toes when lining up your shot. Many people put too much weight forward onto their toes in order to balance themselves better, but if you find yourself leaning forward more than a few inches you might try bending slightly at your knees which will keep your shoulders back straighter to see better through your sighting line.
