Legendary Rugby Union Coach, Sir Clive Woodward, has suggested that Darts should be considered as a future Olympic Sport.
For years, senior officials in the world of darts have pushed for darts to be included in the Olympic Games line up, arguing that the skill and coordination required to succeed on the Oche is not dissimilar to recognised Olympic sports such as archery and rifle shooting.
Sir Clive championed England to victory in the 2003 Rugby World Cup and has played a key role in the phenomenal achievements of the British Olympic team in recent years. For such a successful and internationally acclaimed legend to back darts as a future Olympic Sport is unprecedented for the darts industry.
Writing in the Daily Mail yesterday, Sir Clive states:
"Darts is a sport of and for the people and that is what the modern-day Olympics is striving very hard to reflect. If you made darts an Olympic sport tomorrow, almost overnight millions of men and women from the age of 15 to 65 would suddenly nurture private hopes and ambitions that they could be Olympic champions. It's that accessible?"
