Brian "Doggy” Dawson produced seventeen legs of 21 darts or less en-route to victory in Ranking Stage 1 of the 4th Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship sponsored by Red Dragon Darts. The event which now consists of Ten Ranking Stages, with the best eight sets of points counting towards each players ranking position, saw 78 players from across the region entering the Huntington WMC based event.

York’s Chris Mathews (20-20) went 3-1 up against Dawson (20) after taking advantage of missed doubles from the Yorkshire County star. Dawson then conjured up legs of 14-21 and 15 to take a 4-3 lead with Mathews then replying with 19 to take the match to a decider. Scores of 140-100 and 180 in 13 darts gave Dawson a very valuable 5-4 win and 20 Ranking Points.

The Semi-finals had quality written all over them with Mathews hitting 3 x 180’s in legs of 14-14-15 and 21 to defeat York’s John Quantock (16-21) 4-2 whilst Dawson (14-15-17 and 18) put an end to Cleveland’s Peter Maws hopes of a first victory at a York Darts Promotions event.

Further 180’s, in the earlier rounds, were recorded by Russ, Johnson, Paul Michell, Dave Lord, Chris Quantock, Steve Kemp (Snr), Peter Maw, Andy Jones, Brian Dawson, Gordon Leeming and Steve Mann.

Four other ton plus finishes were recorded by Peter Maw (100), Howard Thwaites (106), Alex Pride (111) and Lutz Leutzsch (124).

Ranking Stage 2 takes place on Saturday 22nd February 2014. We welcome players of all standards to our events and they can enter as many or few of these ranking events as they wish. You do not need to enter all the events. After all ten stages have been completed the Top 48 players in the rankings qualify for the Grand Finals along with the Top 8 Ladies and Top 4 Youth (17 years or under by 28th June 2014).

Also on the same weekend in York there are two competitions where darts players can win the opportunity to play against some of the legends of darts. Again these events are open to all with YDP hosting a knockout at Crescent WMC on Friday 21st February, registration closes 8.15pm for 8.30pm start, where the winner gets the option of playing either Wayne Mardle or Peter Manley at a darts exhibition, with the runner-up playing the other professional, at The Crescent in York on Friday 25th April 2014.

On Sunday 23rd February the Post office Club in York, play starts at 1pm, have three more places up for grabs where the winners will get to play Eric Bristow at an exhibition at the Marygate venue on Saturday 12th April 2014.
