THE WORLD’S FIRST EVER TRUE DARTS MARATHON ?

12 members of the Red Dragon sponsored Red Dragon & Horses darts squad is to take part in what is believed to be the first ever true darts marathon.

"There have been plenty of darts marathons measured in terms of time – 24, 48 hours or even longer," says Red Dragon & Horses captain Richard Saunders. "But to our knowledge no-one has ever set out to play darts and cover the 26 mile, 385 yard marathon distance."

The attempt, which will also involve players from The Crispin and The Ship pubs that play in the J&K Construction Wokingham Darts League, will start at 8.00pm on Friday, April 23rd and is expected to end around midday on Sunday, April 25th – the same day as The London Marathon.

"There’s 1,661,220 inches in a marathon. Throw three darts, take them out of the board and walk back to the oche and you’ve covered 186.5 inches. Do that 8,908 times and you’ve covered a marathon," says Richard.

The Red Dragon players are no strangers to long distance darts; four of them – Lee Hannant, Paul Taylor, Andy Brymer and Richard Saunders – were this month confirmed as new Guinness World Record holders for playing non-stop doubles for 30 hours.

Based on that experience, the marathon is expected to take around 40 hours during which approximately 450 games of 501 will be played on a Blade III dartboard donated by Red Dragon Darts. More than 20 players will take part in ten shifts of four hours.

"It’s all about raising money for charities – Cancer Research UK, The Royal British Legion and a local dialysis unit in Reading," says Richard. "We’ll all be dressed as marathon runners and the emphasis is very much to have some fun whilst raising money at the same time."

The ‘First Ever True Darts Marathon’ will start at 8.00pm on Friday, 23rd April at The Crispin pub in Wokingham. If you’d like to make a donation, you can do so at either:
