The Crown at Olton is the home for the Dunky’s Double Top League. The 22 strong league has just completed its season with Bob Nixon donning the winners crown after amassing a total of 74 points five more than runner up Andy Hutchings who in turn was two to the good on John Sidwell who finished third. After playing 22 games in the C’s Club Double Top League leader Neil Parsonage had won all 22 and had only dropped four legs, in week twelve he continued his fine form when he beat Ryan Beale 3-0 but then dropped a fifth leg as he won 2-1 against Charlie Kingdon. The two latest wins give Parsonage not only a nine points lead over second placed Jake Webster but also a game in hand. Webster had two 3-0 wins in his games against Luke Beale and Lee Walker. A special mention this week for Luke Beale who had gone 25 games without a win but he broke his “Duck” this week with a 2-1 success against Duane Green, well done Luke. The top four teams in the Shirley and District Monday Night League all won in week five, a 6-3 home win over Saracens Misfits keeping The Wharf in pole position, level on ten points with Cider House but one leg of average to the good even though Cider House won 7-2 away to Plume of Feathers. Sharmans Sharks and Red Lion are placed third and fourth respectively, both teams have eight points, Sharmans with two maximums from Andy Foulkes beating Legion Royals 8-1 and Red Lion winning by the same 8-1 margin against Blue Bell. Lodge player John Phipps also notched a 180 in his team’s 7-2 win at Shirley Spartac. Just one fixture played in Group ‘A’ of the Forest of Arden Summer League which brought together the top and bottom teams. Leaders Journeys End travelled to take on Highwood Exiles and consolidated their number one spot with a 9-0 victory to put them on 16 points from 8 games, four more than New Inns in second place who have played seven. In Group ‘B’ third placed Crown at Shard End lost their home tie with second in the table C’s Shamrocks 5-4 to go two points behind their victors, Shamrocks are four points adrift of the unbeaten leaders Dunky’s Boys. A 4-3 home win over Wagon and Horses has seen Sedgemere Devil’s Club move off the foot of the Camp Hill League and be replaced by North Star whose 5-2 reversal away to Station Wagon leaves them on the same two points as Sedgemere but with an inferior average. With White Swan Nomads having a bye they have surrendered the top spot to Sheldon Marlborough Flights whose 5-2 win over Emerald Club has seen them draw level on 12 points with the Nomads but have a two legs of average lead on them. It may well have been week 13 in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League League but it was not an unlucky week for the top eight teams as they all recorded wins. Leaders Brickmakers Arms and second placed Ten Arches ‘A’, in turn handed out 9-0 whitewashes to Hop House and Hare and Hounds ‘A’ to maintain the two points gap between the two teams. Third in the table Ten Arches ‘B’ only trail their ‘A’’ team on average after they won 7-2 against Church Tavern. Bird (Wordsley) player C.Hipkiss registered a great 167 game shot as his team beat their visitors Garibaldi 7-2. Dudley Sports ‘A’ lost ground in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League title race when they lost 5-4 away to Delph Bell who take over the third place from their opponents, leading them on average as both teams are on 34 points. Just ahead of the two teams on 36 points is second in the table Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club who had a 7-2 win at King William leaving them four points behind leaders Bulls Head (Netherton) after they had a 6-3 win over Bull and Bladder. Emphatic wins for the top four teams in the Brierley Hill Friday Night League as they all recorded 6-1 wins. Top of the table with 14 points Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ beat Netherton Cricket Club ‘B’ and the chasing pack of Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’, Old Star and Ashwood in turn accounted for Miners (Wollescote), Dudley Sports and Delph Bell tpo give them all 12 points. A 7-2 home win over Beausale in the Henley and District League has seen Studley Conservative Club take their unbeaten run to eight games and also keep their two points lead intact over second in the table Studley Cricket Club who went one better with an 8-1 result against Wythall RBL. Third placed Wootton Bears kept within four points of the leaders with a 7-2 win at Dorridge. For the second time in the matter of a few weeks, Townsend Social Club have defeated Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club in the Netherton Thursday Night League. This latest 5-4 home defeat has proved more costly for the Ex Serviceman’s Club as they have lost pole position to Riddins Tavern. Riddins 6-3 home win over Netherton Conservative Club has put them on 42 points, three more than the Ex Serviceman’s Club who have played one game less than Riddins and have a better average. With the top six teams all winning there is little change in the Rowley Monday Night League. A 6-1 win over Horseley Tavern has seen Tipton Sports open a lead of two points between them and second in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League table Dewdrop ‘A’ after Dewdrop ‘A’ lost their home tie with fifth in the table the Vine 4-3. Third in the league Waggon and Horses are also now two points off the top following their 4-3 home defeat by Hayes Social. Allens Sports Bar ‘A’ continue their good start to the West Midlands Men’s Super League season adding a 5-0 success against Hill and Cakemore to their previous three wins to keep them one point to the good on second placed Cradley Liberal Club who also won 5-0 at Horse and Jockey. Making up a trio of clean sweeps for the top three teams was third in the table Yeltz Bar who won away at Victoria to give them 25 points, two short of the leaders. Their latest 6-3 home win over third in the table Erdington Club keeps them four points ahead of their nearest rivals Golden Hind who had a bye in week 15, Erdington Club with 18 points are a further four behind Golden Hind with a game in hand. There was a shock for division two leaders Boldmere Tap as they lost their home game with third placed Old Oscott Arrows 6-3 but hold on to pole position with 22 points two more than second placed Pint Pot Flights who won 7-2 against St Thomas Arrows. Pint Pot Flights with a superior average also have a game in hand on Boldmere. No fewer than six teams are two points off the top of the table Brickmakers ‘A’, Ashwood ‘B’, Gate Hangs Well, Netherton Cricket Club, Ten Arches ‘A’ and Glasscutters, Brickmakers the only one of the six who have won all of their games and have one in hand on the leading duo. Week seventeen in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League matched the league’s top two teams, the 5-2 result went in favour of the current leaders Hurst Hill and saw their opponents ECC ‘A’ drop from second to third in the table but level on points with second placed Whitmore Reans WMC who beat ECC ‘B’ 4-3. Pilot moved off the bottom of the table, a 4-3 result against Brewood British Legion giving them a total of 6 points two more than Emerald who have played one game less than Pilot as they had a bye. The Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League played their Riley’s Division One Cup down to the last sixteen and qualifying for the next round were Reece Cook-Lucas, Justin Evans, Drew Evans, Luis Evans (Gilberts Bar), Michele Pritchard, Kevin Jones, John Aston, Alex Ives, (Riley’s ‘A’), Allan Davies, Jamie Daly, Paul Kennedy, Harry Small (Sunbeam), Mark Daniel, Karl Hughes, Kev Bateman, Ben Forrest (Railway).
Copper Fox suffered their first defeat of the season in the Harborne and District League when they lost 6-3 away to league leaders Avenue Social ‘B’ who now have a two points lead over the rest of the field. Besides Avenue Social ‘B’ third in the table HV Flights are the only other unbeaten team, their latest 5-4 win at Weoley Castle Pub giving them six points from three games.
