Wright Building for Success

EXCLUSIVE

PETER WRIGHT believes he is now sowing the seeds of glory on the oche after building a lockdown 40 foot polytunnel greenhouse!

The World Champion has been in sensational form in the Unibet Premier League yet incredibly finds himself in sixth place going into tonight’s (Weds) clash with Michael van Gerwen.

Snakebite has hit a nine-darter and had two other perfect legs denied by missing the last dart but somehow has lost three matches in succession.

Typically laid-back Wright is not worried because he is treating his performances like his latest crop of veggies.

He said: “I’m not worried, that’s just the way this game works out sometimes. I’m happy with my darts and I really should have had three nine darters.

“That’s frustrating because it proves how good they are going for me. But I’ll be patient, I always have been and it will come good.

“I built a 40 foot polytunnel greenhouse during lockdown. You have to reap what you sow and wait. “I’m very proud of our first crop. We’ve got beetroot, spinach, lettuce, round courgettes, kale, strawberries and tomatoes. There’s no problem getting our five-a-day in the Wright household!

“But I’ll treat my darts like that. I know that I’m doing the right things at the moment and the results will come.”

Only four points separate second and seventh place in the fascinating league table when it resumes in Milton Keynes tonight.

There are four nights remaining of the league system and Wright faces MVG, Nathan Aspinall, Glen Durrant and Michael Smith. The top four go into finals night scheduled for the O2 in London on October 22.

He added: “I don’t really look at who I’m playing. It doesn’t really matter, they are all world class every night.

“I know that when these darts work, I can beat anybody. I also know that I need a couple of wins as soon as possible to get in the top four.

“It’s been really interesting because everyone has been in the same situation. Michael lost three matches as well last week, Gerwyn lost a couple. The most consistent person is Glen and that’s why he’s top!

“The standard is mental these days, you can hit 107 averages, nine-darters and still get beat. But I know my results will come. Watch out!”
