Wright Grabs Draw Despite Playing "Rubbish"

Peter Wright admitted he played “rubbish” despite keeping his cool to nail a vital draw and stay in the hunt for Unibet Premier League glory. The World No.3 looked well on course to victory at 5-2 up over James Wade at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin in front of a sell-out 10,000 crowd. But Wade delivered a slick four quick wins before Snakebite salvaged a point with an excellent 74 finish with double 16. Wright said: “It feels like a point lost again, same as last week. I can’t explain why this keeps happening. I was 5-2 up, I wasn’t playing well. “But it felt like somebody came down with a great big hand and took everything out of my body, all my concentration, totally out of the window. “I was wondering ‘How do I throw a dart? What am I doing?’. All the focus just totally went. I just can’t explain it. “I don’t think I’m scoring well to be honest. I glanced across at my average and I was playing rubbish. I was trying to up my game.”
Daryl Gurney came from two legs down to beat Michael van Gerwen 7-5 in a shock win. He said: “All I’m doing the whole game is fighting myself. It wasn’t a great game. I went 2-0 down, took out a couple of finishes but I spent the who game fighting with treble 20. “When my first dart is right I can beat anybody. I don’t feel safe from relegation yet. Whatever I do and Raymond van Barneveld does is two different things. “All I wanted was a point out of this game just in case Super Raymond turned up against me in Rotterdam next week!”
Rob Cross went top of the table with his fourth win in succession, beating Gerwyn Price 7-4. Voltage hardly broke sweat with a 104 average and just managed to keep Price at bay after two early breaks of throw. Cross said: “That felt like a bit of a graft tonight. I broke Gerwyn and then gave an easy one back. It was just about staying in front and winning. I got the job done. “I thought it was poorer than a 104 average. I kept giving freebie legs away, I need to work on that and make my own throw stronger. “I’m really happy with four match wins in succession. I’m happy at home and on the stage. Life can’t be any better.”
