Wright: I Need to Listen to my Missus!

Pumped-up Peter Wright has revealed he needs to listen to his missus to win more major tournaments. The World No.3 is renowned for his continual tungsten tinkering on his journey to find the perfect darts. Snakebite, 48, remains defiant but wife Jo is ready to put her foot down to make sure her hubby grabs more majors. Wright, who faces Rob Cross in his Unibet Premier League opener in Newcastle tomorrow night, said: “My wife Jo tells me to stick to the darts but I don’t listen. But she’s not on stage and doesn’t throw the darts! “I’m sticking with the darts but tinker with the points, stems and flights like any other dart player does. “I’m fresh, I’m back and ready to go. I’m looking forward to winning the £25,000 bonus for finishing No.1, that’s my target this year. “I didn’t play well at all last year but still won three tournaments, one of the World Series so it’s not bad but nowhere near where I want it to be. “Obviously the gallstones problems and losing weight affected me but it shouldn’t do. There’s no excuse about losing weight. I don’t know what it was last year to be honest, maybe not in the right frame of mind.” Speaking at the recent SAP Darts Slam in Prague, Wright insists he’s back on track now and aims to make up for the heartbreak of missing match darts to win the PL at the O2 against Michael van Gerwen two years ago. He added: “I missed out on winning the Premier League two years ago by a leg or two so I’ve got to try and make up for that. “I’d love to win the UK Open again, win the Matchplay because I got to the final two years ago. As long as I win over 11 tournaments to break my own record plus one or two majors and I’ll be happy. “Has the World Championships hurt me? No. Because now all the other guys have got so much to defend and I’ve not go much to defend in the rankings! “I’d still like to shut a lot of people up by winning majors. But there’s such a high standard of players now that is difficult. But if I stick to the right set up it will work.” Wright’s opponent Rob Cross has endured a difficult time since losing his World title. He admits: “I still know my form is there.
