
A Look Back In Time 04.10.2006
Warwickshire rounded off their 2005 / 2006 season in the premier division of the Kaliber BDO Inter counties championships with a tremendous 27-9 home victory over Cheshire. They have begun the new campaign with exactly the same scoreline, unfortunately it was in favour of their visitors Kent.
Both men’s teams finished on the wrong side of 10-2 verdicts with Dave Harris jnr (27.33) and Trevor Frost (24.62) taking the respective ‘A’ and ‘B’ match awards. Best average of the weekend went to the ladies ‘A’ lady of the match Trina Gulliver, who recorded a cracking 28.83 in her 3-1 win against Tricia Wright, the team ending all square at 3-3. The ladies ‘B’ went down 4-2 with Helen Rigg (15.33) their top player.

Two 2-1 wins over Gordon Clinton and Carl Winters as seen Mark Birch go to the top of the table in the Brook Meadow Individual League. However, it may not be for too long as the man he ousted, Ian McFarlane only played one game this week and that resulted in a 2-1 win over Jay Murray to leave him level on points with Birch but with a game in hand.
Only three maximums this week and they were supplied by Carl Winters, Mark Birch and Jason Evans.

The League Cup final in the Harborne and District 401 Summer League produced a fantastic comeback by division one champions Smethwick Labour Club. Trailing 4-0 to league runners up Midland Red they fought back to grab a tremendous 5-4 victory.
In the final of the Consolation Cup, Quinton Members Club had a somewhat comfortable 7-2 success against the Raven.
The singles title went to Midland Red’s Dave Bourne, who in the final defeated the George representative, Eric Greasley 2-0.

The Four Oaks and District League kicked off their new season with the first round of their Brian Goodman Cup. Hitting the first 180 of the season was E.Atkins, from Old Oscott Arrows, who chalked up a convincing 8-1 win over the Acorn. Other teams to go into the hat for the next round draw are, Boot Flights, Anvil Nomads, Midland Red, Red Lion Flights, Old Oscott WMC, Hardy Spicer and Deers Leap.

The final of the division two Divisional Cup in the Pip Club League will be fought out between Tamworth Sports Bar and Hopwas Club, who in turn beat Boot (Grendon) and Red Lion (Polesworth) in the semi finals.

The Tigers moved to within two points of becoming G.U.L.P. Charity League champions after a 6-1 win at the Tribe, while Barmy Army’s 6-1 success over the Sharks keeps them in contention for a top three finish. Red Devils have gone top of the shadow league with a 4-3 away win over the Beasts
Tomorrow night the league will be staging the finals of their doubles knockout at the Acocks Green Legion. All players taking part should note that roll call will take place at 8.30pm.

In the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League, Olton RBL handed out a 5-4 defeat to Brook Meadow to put them top of the table after two fixtures. Just one leg of average behind Olton is Mackadown Sports and Social, who beat Sheldon Social 7-2.
Banbury Club and Shirley RBL lead the field in division one. Banbury following up their curtain raising 5-4 win over Vaughans with a convincing 8-1 success at Glebe Farm Community Association, while Shirley won 7-2 on opening day against Glebe Farm and added a 6-3 win over Kingshurst Labour Club to their tally.
There is a similar situation in division two where Farringdon Flights and Sedgemere Flights are level on points and average. Farringdon beating Yardley Ex Flights (6-3) and Willclare Social (5-4), while Sedgemere defeated Millhouse (5-4) and Bordesley Labour Club (6-3
