The Four Oaks and District League produced a couple of major shocks this week, none more surprising than the defeat of leaders Midland Red by Hill Social. Playing at home the Red’s finished on the wrong side of a 5-4 verdict, only their third defeat of the campaign, however, they do hang on to pole position, but only by the skin of their teeth as Good Hope Flights have drawn level on points with them following their 6-3 win at Bromford Lions. Ninth placed Barn Social were the other side to cause an upset. Despite home advantage they were not expected to beat second in the table Old Oscott WMC, but they did and by a 6-3 margin. Although Barn remain in ninth position, Old Oscott WMC have dropped fourth, two points adrift of the leading duo.
M.Austin had an eight darts leg for Hardy Spicer, while T.Kelly (Kingstanding Ex Servicemen’s) hit a maximum.

The Brook Meadow Individual League has completed its league programme and retaining the title for the second successive season is Mark Birch, but this time it was oh so close. Going into the last two games Birch, who had won all but three of his twenty games held a three point’s advantage over rival Robbie Earl. In both of the final games he lost 2-1, first to Simon Winters and then Ian McFarlane, Earl, meanwhile was chalking up a 2-1 success over Keith Kelly and a 3-0 win against Terry Blakemore, which left him just one point short of the total 83 set by Birch. Simon Winters was in third place a further two points behind Earl.
What a fantastic season it turned out to be with the title closely contested from the very first game to the last.

Old Mill also won by a similar margin against W.C.WMC and Cock Inn overcame the challenge of the Highlander with a 5-4 victory.
In division one George and Midland Red both recorded comfortable 7-2 wins over respective opponents New Inns and Smethwick Labour Club. K.Smith (Colwyn) helped his side to a 5-4 win over Bartley Green F.C. by hitting a 180.

Going into the final game of the season nothing is yet decided in either of the divisions in the Tamworth Cue Sports League. In division one the Globe are just two legs of average ahead of Queens Head ‘A’ and in the second division Three Horse Shoes, despite having a far superior average to their nearest rivals Royal Oak, would lose the title if they lost in their final game and Royal Oak won.
The league will be playing the first round of their division one cup tomorrow evening, the draw is White Lion v Cue Sports Club, Two Gates Club v Queens Head ‘A’, Globe v Red Lion ‘B’, Red Lion ‘A’ v Dolphin.
