A LOOK BACK IN TIME - 08.12.2004
Midland Red consolidated their number one spot in division one of the Harborne and District Winter League with a comfortable 7-3 home win over the Pheasant this week. However, the George has a similar ten points as Midland Red after beating Hillyfields 6-4, but they do have an inferior average. Coopers Arms remain the only first division side without a win in five fixtures, going down 7-3at W.C. WMC in their latest game.
Quinborne Flights had a 7-3 win at the Travellers Rest to keep their unbeaten run intact and also their two points lead as leaders of division two. Bottom of the table Harborne Stores lost 9-1 at Avenue Social to leave them still chasing their first [points of the season.

In division one of the Four Oaks and District League Midland Red made it four consecutive wins when they defeated Old Oscott WMC 5-4. G.Bushell hit a maximum for the Red’s, but it was not enough for him to avoid defeat. Bushell’s team mate N.Garbett clinched his game with a fine eight darts winning leg. Anvil Nomads chalked up their second win of the campaign when they beat Yenton Exiles 6-3.
In the second division Barn Social made it five wins in as many games with a close 5-4 verdict at Boldmere Sports. Another 5-4 result saw Bromford Lions extend their unbeaten run. Bromford’s fourth victory came at the expense of the Leopard.

League Cup preliminary rounds were on the fixture card for the Sheldon and District Winter League. In the premier division Saltley Amateur Gardeners, with a maximum from T.Randell won 7-2 at the Malt Shovel, while the other two games played finished with a 5-4 scoreline, wins for Three Horse Shoes and Toby Jug over respective opponents Castle Vale Residents Association and Hen and Chickens.
P.Gould was in fine form for the Raven in the division one preliminaries, recording a 120 break, a 150 checkout and a fifteen darts leg in his side’s 6-3 win against Banbury Club. Sheldon Social also had a 6-3 success in their tie at the Pavilions. Vaughans and Lea Hall Sports and Social both won 5-4, with Shard End RBL and Shard End Social on the receiving end.
There were two games in division two Gunmakers Arms winning convincingly by 8-1 at Sedgemere Flights and Victoria Social winning their home game against Yardley Ex Service Flights 5-4.

Sheldon Heath Social Club was the setting for the Forest of Arden Winter League’s men’s and women’s singles knockouts. Taking the honours in the men’s competition was the home team’s representative Mick Cooper. Mick’s final hurdle came in the shape of Terry Commerford, who was playing from the Harvester.
The women’s final was fought out between Debbie Flynn, from the Greville Arms and Sheldon Ivy Leaf’s Jeanette James. It was Debbie who lifted the title leaving Jeanette as runner up.
