S.Joyce chalked up a 160 break for the Hillyfields in division one of the Harborne and District Winter League as his side roared to an 8-2 win at the Pheasant. 8-2 was also the margin by which New Inns Beat Coopers Arms and Midland Red accounted for the George.

In the second division Quinborne Flights were the biggest winners as they recorded a 9-1 success against Highlander Flights. The Cock Inn had a close 5-4 win over Stonehouse Flights with N.Evans hitting a maximum for the Cock. Greenlands and Quinborne Members Club finished all square at five each.

There was a top of the table clash in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League this week when Saltley Amateur Gardeners and Fordbridge Social met on the formers board. The game had everything, a 160 break and a score of 180 from Fordbridge man J.Pears, plus a nine darts leg from Saltley’s N.Clarke and a 106 finish by his team mate T.White. However, the all-important statistic was that of 6-3 which went to Saltley. Another team vying for honours is the Highwood, who had a comfortable 7-2 home win over Hen and Chickens.Toby Jug’s A.Richards was another player to break with 160 although his team lost 6-3 to Three Horse Shoes, but the best break of the week went definitely to Sheldon Dukes M.Hicks, he recorded the highest possible break of 170.

In division one the final two undefeated players Neil Parsonage (Banbury Club) and Ray Agar (Pavilions) played each other, the result a 2-1 win for Parsonage, but his team suffered a blow to their title aspirations when they went down 5-4. Another team to hand out a shock defeat were Lea Hall Sports and Social who beat RAFA 8-1.

The Four Oaks and District League were involved in their singles knockout this week. Two venues hosted the competition playing down to a winner at each. At the Good Hope Social Club A.James (Midland Red) beat Old Oscott Arrows representative R.Kenyon by 2-1. The other play off was staged at the Barn Social. A.Stainfield (Yenton Exiles) beat Saints man J.Kiernan in the semi’s despite Kiernan having a 160 break and an eight darts leg. In the final Stainfield had an eight darts leg and went on to win 2-1 against M.Sheppard from the Leopard, who hit two maximums.

It was top versus bottom in the Small Heath League when leaders Victoria 301 Club took on local rivals Victoria. The result highlighted the difference between the two teams when 301 Club hammered their opponents 9-0. Three other teams are on the same eight points as Victoria 301 Club, Ward End Ex Service Club, who beat Wagon and Horse 5-4, Custard House, who were another team to hand out a 9-0 whitewash, their opposition coming in the form of Victoria Flights and Mitre, they beat McVeighs 6-3.

Two Gates Club opened their account in the Tamworth Cue Sports League with a 5-3 win at the Red Lion ’A’ and after only two fixtures have been played they are the only 100% team in the league. Leaders Dolphin were held to a 4-4 home draw by Queens, and White Lion who are on the same 3 points as Dolphin won 6-2 at home to Red Lion ’B’. G.Alexander hit a maximum for White Lion.

No change at the top of the Forest of Arden Winter League as the top two teams, Red Arrows and Mackadown Sports and Social both chalk up further victories. Red Arrows had an away game against Sheldon Heath Social and with a maximum from C.Hall plus an eight darts leg from M.Duggan, returned with a 6-3 win. <ackadown meanwhile were playing hosts to Greville Arrows and they recorded a close 5-4 success.
