A LOOK BACK IN TIME - 16-02-2005
Only two fixtures were played in division one of the Four Oaks and District League this week, but the one between Old Oscott WMC and Hill Social was a cracker. For Old Oscott J.Higgins hit a maximum, but everyone was agreed that the match between N.Hawkley (Old Oscott WMC) and A.Evans was the highlight of the evening. Hawkley had top shots of 2x102 breaks, 100 and 105 finish, plus a nine darts leg. Nevertheless it was Evans with scores of 160, 140 and 100 who got the vital 2-1 verdict, helping his side to a very close 5-4 victory. In the other fixture Old Oscott Arrows beat Anvil Nomads 7-2.
In the second division there were 7-2 wins for both Good Hope Flights and Barn Social, who in turn defeated Boldmere Sports and the Saints. The Bromford Lions and Hardy Spicer match was a battle to the very last leg, with the former just getting the 5-4 edge.

No change at the top of the Small Heath League as the top three teams all recorded wins. Leaders Ward End Ex Service Club had a comfortable 8-1 success at bottom of the table Victoria, while second placed Custard House won 6-3 at the Gunmakers Arms. Mitre hold on to third spot with a close 5-4 win against Bromford Social, both teams had a 180, M.Thompson for Bromford and I.Mathews for Mitre. All of the top three teams have ten points, but Ward End have played six games to the others five.
League secretary John Young has requested that all team secretaries get their result cards in by the recommended time so they can be included in this column each week.

White Lion suffered something of a setback to their title aspirations in division one of the Tamworth Cue Sports League as they were held to a 4-4 draw by Two Gates Club. Nevertheless they hold on to pole position with four points from three games, as do second placed Red Lion ’A’ who won 5-3 against their local rivals Red Lion ’B’. Globe, who won 7-1 at home to the Dolphin, and Two Gates Club are both only one point adrift of the leading pair with a game in hand.

After sixteen games Red Arrows head the Forest of Arden Winter League with 30 points, four more than their nearest rivals Mackadown Sports and Social. In the Shadow League Farringdon Social are the pacesetters on eight points from nine games. However, they are only top on average as the Greville Arms have the same number of points but are five legs behind.

It’s tight at the top of division one in the Harborne and District Winter League with only two points separating the top three teams. The George are setting the pace, a further 7-3 win at W.C.WMC giving them 18 points from ten games. Midland Red and the Raven are only two points adrift, the Reds losing ground by going down 6-4 at Bartley Green FC, while the Raven had an emphatic 8-2 win at the New Inns.
Quinborne Flights extended their 100% record with a 7-3 win over third placed Cock Inn in division two to give them a six point’s cushion at the top of the table. Second in the division Quinton Members Club won 7-3 at the Travellers Rest.
On the individual scene there was a maximum for T.Heath (W.C.WMC) and 160 breaks for A.Stevens (George) and R.Mann (Hillyfields).

In the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League S.Winters and P.Allen both hit 180’s for Saltley Amateur Gardeners as they won 7-2 at the Hen and Chickens. A.Hutchings (Highwood) had a 141 checkout, but his team lost 5-4 at the Malt Shovel.
In division one Vaughans were the top scorers, beating Harvester 7-2. Best individual performance was supplied by P.Durrant (British Telecom Club) he recorded an eight darts leg despite his team losing 6-3 at home to Shard End Social.
