Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

The Sheldon and District Summer League have rounded off their season with a few rearranged fixtures, in group one Highwood played hosts to group champions Langley Arrows and with a maximum from John Buckingham the resulting 4-4 draw saw the home side leap-frog Raven Arrows and finish as runners-up with fifteen points just one more than Raven Arrows who ended the season placed third, Langley Arrows had nineteen points.

The other games played in the league all came from group four, a 4-4 draw at Langley Stems, a 6-2 win at Trident Flights plus a 5-3 win against Trident Flights saw Lyndon Old Boys move off the foot of the table and finish the season third in the group with nine points, Langley Stems also ended their campaign with nine points but with a lesser average than Lyndon. The two defeats for Trident Flights saw them take the wooden spoon and finish bottom of the group with four points.

Trident Spears won the group two division and Smithswood Social Club won group three.

The Sheldon and District Winter League will get underway on Thursday 17th October.

The Four Oaks and District League have been engaged in the preliminary round of their Brian Goodman Cup.

The fixtures produced a couple of shock results the biggest of which was the 5-4 defeat of the current division one leaders Old Horns Lion by division two leaders Erdington Arrows. Another surprising result was the 5-4 win by Deer’s Leap who are next to bottom of division two as they accounted for Heartlands who are next to bottom of division one. In the all-division one clashes Old Oscott Arrows took on Rise Club, the former winning 5-4 while Plough and Arrows lost 8-1 to Highcroft Hotdogs and Walmley CSC Flights beat Charley’s Flights 6-3.

There were three all division two fixtures in which Drakes Drum beat Pint Pot Flights 4-3, Rosey Mac’s Bar lost 6-3 to Sutton Sports and St Thomas Misfits, who are without a win in the league won 5-4 at Sutton Sharks.

The reamining three games produced wins for division one teams against division two opponents with Bishop Vesey, Nomas @ Hollyfields and Red Lion all going into the hat for the round two draw at the expense of their respective opponents Rosey Mac’s (3-6), Beggars Bush (2-7) and St Thomas Arrows (1-8).

The Camp Hill League have got their new season underway with the preliminary round of their League Cup. Just the one fixture was played at Tyseley WMC which saw reigning league and cup champions Wakefield Warriors take on Roost Bosh. It didn’t gp well for Bosh as they lost all five of the singles games but made the final 5-2 result a little more respective by winning both doubles games.

Game eight brought about no changes in the top three places of division one in the South West Birmingham Clubs League as leaders Stirchley United won 5-2 at Bournbrook, second in the table Quarry Club won by the same 5-2 margin away to bottom of the division Perfection and despite third in the division Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ losing 6-1 at home to Northfield Darts Club they hold on to third place but are now only two points to the good on their fourth placed victors.

There were just two fixtures played in division two in which leaders Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club won 6-1 at Bartley Green FC to take over pole position from Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ who had a bye this week. The other game saw bottom of the table Moseley All Services Club lose 4-3 at home against E57.

On the individual scene there were 160 breaks for both J.Cutler (Northfield Darts Club) and S.Corbett (Moseley All Services Club).

With just three more fixtures to play leaders of the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League Old Liberal Club took their undefeated run to thirty-three games by handing their hosts Raven ‘A’ a 7-0 whitewash. The win confirms Old Liberal Club as champins as they are on sixty-six points with a ten points lead over second placed Gate Hangs Well ‘B’ who have four remaining games and could only amass a further eight points. Gate Hangs Well ‘B’ had a close 4-3 win at fifth in the league Five Ways to keep them two points ahead of third in the table Princess who won their home fixture with Mount Pleasant 7-0 to in turn keep a two points leadon fourth placed Netherton Conservative Club ‘B’ who won 5-2 at Rose and Crown ‘A’.

The Rowley Monday Night League had their 3-A-Side Knockout on their fixture card and in the Top Half Knockout semi-finals Plough-Abdul lost to Tividale-Smarty while Bell-Trevor beat Tividale FC-Jason. The title went to Bell-Trevor after winning against Tividale-Smarty.

In the last four games of the Shadow Half knockout Rowley Bar and Grill-James beat their local rivals Rowley Bar and Grill-Adam and joing them in the final were Tividale Sports-Dean who accounted for Rowley Labour Club-Rich. The final result went in favour of Rowley Bar and Grill-James with Tividale Sports-Dean runners-up.

Game twenty-six brought about a bit of a shock result in the Silver End Sunday Morning League for leaders Dudley Sports ‘A’ as they were held to a 4-4 draw by High Acres ‘C’ a team twelve places below them, nevertheless Dudley Sports ‘A’ remain at the top of the table with a total of sixty-eight points and although second in the league Old Star won 6-2 at New Talbot ‘A’ they still have a six points clear lead. Old Star’s win keeps them just one point to the good on third in the table Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club who also had a 6-2 win playing away against Rose and Crown. After the top three there is a gap of nine points to fourth placed Church Tavern who finished all-square at 4-4 away to High Acres ‘A’.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ held on to their four points lead at the top of the Brierley Hill Monday Night League table as they added their latest 5-4 win at High Acres ‘B’ to their account. Second in the league Maverick won 6-3 at Raven to put them on thirty-two points. With Roebuck ‘A’ having a bye this week they dropped to fourth place on twenty-eight points and their ‘B’ side who won 5-4 at Starving Rascal replaced them in the number three spot with thirty points and although they are two short of Maverick they do have a game in hand as do Roebuck ‘A’ who are four points behind Maverick. Mount Pleasant in fifth place are also on twenty-eight points and have a game in hand on the top two teams after they won 7-2 at Tommy Turners ‘B’.

The Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League are two games into the second half of their season and leaders Five Ways ‘A’ continue their winning ways adding a 4-3 home win over Stourbridge FC to their tally to make it eighteen straight wins to give them a perfect score of thirty-six points, however they still only have a lead of two points over second placed Old Liberal Club ‘A’ who won 7-0 at home against White Horse. Bird in Hand ‘E’ are third in the table with four points fewer than Old Liberal Club ‘A’ after they won 6-1 at home against Wheatsheaf. Making up the to four is Hollybush, their 6-1 home win over Netherton Conservative Club leaving them two points short of Bird in Hand ‘E’.

Current leader of the Amblecote RBL Premier League Dan Nicholls didn’t play in the latest round of fixtures but holds on to the number one spot with 363 points from sixty-eight games with only four more to play. Nick Fullwell had probably his worst night since the season began as he played and lost two games. Fullwell began the night with a 5-2 defeat to Reece Colley and then lost once again by the same margin to Andy Vellender to see him drop one place in the table to third on 337 points from sixty-eight games. Reece Colley however had his best night of the season playing seven games and winning them all to lift him from fifth in the table to second on 355 points from sixty-five games. Colley kicked off with four 5-2 wins against Aaron Colley, John Green, Dave Simpson and Nick Fullwell. He then beat Joe Poole 6-1 before rounding off the night with two straight 7-0 wins over Stephen Cartwright and Matt Halliday to put him firmly in contention for the title.

Another player still in with a shout for the title is Tom Bissell, although he is fifth in the league and thirty points off the top he has only played sixty-one games and has eleven more to play. Bissell’s latest fixtures saw him win 5-2 against Jake Robinson and Jake Shipley before finishing the night with a 4-3 win against Ian Townsend.

Jacqueline Maiden did her title hopes no harm whatsoever when she added a further 3-0 win over Debbie Davis to her tally in the West Midlands Ladies Super League to give her seventy points from twenty-five games and a lead of two over former league leader Gemma Barrett who on the night added a 3-0 win over Sam Rowley to her account. Jackie Trott is third with sixty-one points and although she has nine fewer than Jacqueline Maiden she does have three games in hand to help reduce the arrears and possibly move her up into the number one spot.

The Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League are up to game five but from the starting line-up of thirteen teams only two have a 100% win record and one of those is New Inn 2 who head the table with eight points from their four games the latest of which saw them win 6-2 at home against Britannia who were formerly second in the league but the defeat sees them drop to fourth. The only other undefeated team is second placed Gornal British Legion who added a 7-2 win at Jolly Crispin to their account to leave them two points behind New Inn 2 as they have only played three games. On the same six points as Gornal British Legion are Netherton Sports and Social, Britannia, Red Cow, Stump and New Inn, Netherton Sports and Social and Stump have both played four games the other three have all played five.

Scott Baker took his number of points from thirty games in division one of the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League to 224 with a 6-2 win over Jamie Webb. Baker has a huge twenty-six points lead over his nearest rival Sean Simmons-Fullwood who won his game against Simon Pritchard 5-3 leaving him with a game in hand on Baker. There was no change in the top seven places in the division.

In division two the top ten places remain the same with Kurt Wright leading the field and although he didn’t play this week he still has a sixteen points plus a game in hand advantage over second in the division Alan Melling who in turn is eighteen points to the good on third in the table Allan Davies.

Well what can you say about the third division leader Dave Thackeray who appears to go from strength to strength as he won his most recent fixture against Robert Bradley 8-0 to make it thirty-one straight victories giving him a massive forty-five points lead over second in the division Joe Bartolo.

It was the second leg of round one of the Knockout Cup in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League and the overall results for the two legs seeing the winning teams go into the next round were Golden Lion beat Corpus Christi ‘B 13-1, Junction ‘B’ won 12-2 against Three Crowns, Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ had a 13-1 win over Woodfield and joining their ‘A’ side in the next round will be Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ with their 10-4 win over Junction ‘D’. There was an 8-6 win for Junction ‘C’ against New Gate Inn ‘B’ while Corpus Christi ‘A’ won by the same margin against Dog and Partridge. Milestone won 10-4 against Wednesfield Legion and being as New Gate Inn ‘A’ were unable to field a team their opponents Hotshots were awarded a 14-0 win.
