A Look Back in Time 13.03.2006
Not even home advantage was enough to give Warwickshire the points against Cambridgeshire in their latest fixture in the premier division of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championship. With one win and five defeats in their previous encounters the home side were anxious to chalk up another win to add to their tally unfortunately they had to satisfy themselves with a share of the spoils.
There were mixed fortunes for the men’s teams as the ’A’ side won 9-3 (Martin Angell 29.99 man of the match) and the ’B’ went down 7-5 with Dave Atkins (26.54) their top man). Trina Gulliver (25.05) helped the ladies ’A’ to a 3-3 draw, while Betty Sinnett (15.45) was the only player to win for the ’B’ side.

Carl Winters has emerged as the early pacesetter in the Brook Meadow Individual League and following his 3-0 wins over both Ross Macken and John Whitehouse is now the only player with a 100% win record. Ian McFarlane dropped his first points of the campaign when after beating Jason Evans 3-0 he lost 2-1 to Dave Field. Carl Winters is currently on 28 points, five ahead of both, Ian McFalane and Gordon Clinton, Clinton having 2-1 wins against Keith Kelly and Roy Parry.
Fastest game of the week went to Ian McFarlane who recorded 14 and 15 darts winning legs against Jason Evans, he also hit a maximum in his tie with Dave Field. John Whitehouse also found the three treble twenties despite losing 3-0 to Ricky Heaven.

There was a top of the table clash in the Four Oaks and District League this week as leaders Midland Red took on their nearest rivals Good Hope Flights. Prior to the match both teams were locked together on 26 points with only average separating them. The margin of the result was somewhat amazing as the Red’s romped to a convincing 8-1 victory, finishing doubles costing their counterparts heavily. With only five fixtures remaining the result could well rule out any chance Good Hope had of collecting the winners silverware.
A 7-2 win at Old Oscott Arrows as seen Anvil Nomads take over the number two spot, their superior average earning them the place over Good Hope Flights.

In division one of the Harborne and District 301 Winter League Midland Red proved to be far too strong for Hillyfields as they beat them 8-1, R.Mann hitting a 180 for the losers. K.Pemberton (Bartley Green F.C) was another player to hit a maximum. However, the division’s bottom team once again failed to win as they finished on the wrong side of a 5-4 scoreline at the New Inns. Superior finishing power earned the George a 6-3 victory at Smethwick Labour Club.
In the second division the Old Mill continued to press for honours as they accounted for the Stonehouse with a 6-3 success. A 160 break from P.James helped his side, Cock Inn to an 8-1 win at Harborne Stores.

No change at the top of the Small Heath League as the top four teams all recorded emphatic victories. The top two teams, Bromford Bridge Members Club ’A’ and Mitre both had 7-2 wins against respective opponents Custard House and Bromford Bridge Members Club ’B’, leaving Bromford ’A’ in pole position with the better average. Third placed Victoria 301 Club had an 8-1 win at Victoria Flights, but the best win of the week went to fourth in the league Gunmakers Arms who handed out a 9-0 whitewash to bottom of the table Victoria. Gunmakers and the 301 Club are both six points behind the leading duo.
