A LOOK BACK IN TIME - 14.04.2004
It was not a good trip north for the Warwickshire County Darts Organisation when in the premier division of the BDO Inter Counties Championships they travelled to take on Lancashire. The result was their biggest defeat of the season, a 22-14 reversal, with only the ladies ‘A’ winning. Clare Bywaters (25.29) was the ‘A’ side’s top lady in their 4-2 win, while Denise Burke (18.64) was not only the lady of the match for the ’B’ tram but also the solitary winner.
The men’s ’A’ suffered their first defeat of the campaign going down 8-4 with Tom Aldridge (28.83) taking the match award. Graham Flowers (27.31) collected the ’B’ award as they went down 7-5.

In division three the West Midlands did not fare much better as they could only manage a draw away to Bedfordshire, a result that could well cost them a promotion place. The men’s ’A’ lost for the first time since the seasons curtain raiser against County Durham, going down 7-5. The ’B’ team however, maintained their unbeaten run with an 8-4 scoreline. In the ladies games the ’A’ finished all square at 3-3 and the ’B’ lost 4-2, which in the promotion table leaves them third, seven points adrift of second placed Cornwall.

The second division of the Four Oaks and District Winter League finished with a titanic title decider between Sportsman’s Rest and Hill Allotments. Prior to the fixture both teams were level on 24 points, Sportsman’s were top on average only. But that all changed when the close 5-4 verdict went in favour of Hill Allotments to give them the title and Sportsman’s finished as runners up.
J.Miller (Bromford Lions) finished the season on a high hitting a 180 and recording an eleven darts game in his side’s 8-1 win at Elmsdale.

The early pacesetters in the Brookmeadow Individual League are Robert Earl and Gordon Clinton, who after two fixtures have ten points, one more than the rest of the field. Earl began the new campaign with 3-0 wins over Gareth Lomas and Alan Smith, while Gordon Clinton has had similar wins against Paul Hogan and Dave Downes. In his game against Downes Clinton hit a 180, 2x134, 121, 100 and had a 140 checkout plus a 12 darts game, not a bad start to the new season.
Other players to notch a maximum in the opening games are, Ricky Lawrence, Trevor Frost and John Goodman.

The Sheldon and District Winter League have been playing off the semi-finals of their Divisional Cups. In the premier division Highwood won 6-3 against Sheldon Heath Dukes, while Malt Shovel had a 5-4 win over St Annes. Winners in division one were, Shard End Social and Harvester, who had respective 6-3 and 7-2 wins over Hen and Chickens (J.Lucas 180) and Lea Hall Sports and Social. Going through to the division two final will be Banbury Club, who won 7-2 against Old Bill and Bull and Yardley Ex Service, with a 6-3 success at Sheldon and Marlboro.
----------------------------------
After a win in the semi-finals against the Plough and Harrow, Winning Post went on to beat the Dolphin in the final of the Longwood Winter League’s Open Cup. The other losing semi-finalist was Jolly Sailor.
Queens ’B’ won the league’s division two Challenge Cup, with a final victory over the Jolly Sailor.
----------------------------------
It was a case of top playing bottom in the Small Heath Winter League. The outcome was a not too surprising 6-3 win for leaders Victoria 301 Club over the Gunmakers Arms. Victoria now lead the field on 12 points, two more than their nearest rivals, with games in hand.
