14.0Playing for Innisfree in only the third fixture of the Small Heath Summer League John McCaffrey, for the second time has recorded a tremendous maximum break of 170. However, despite John’s fabulous performance his team lost 5-4 to the Station Hotel. In the week four games leaders Custard House lost their first of the campaign, a 6-3 reversal in their away game against Station Hotel. Three teams are now sharing top place on six points, Custard House, Victoria 301 Club and Station Hotel

At the other end of the table Gunmakers Arms chalked up their first win of the season a 5-4 win against Victoria Flights. Gunmakers now move off the bottom spot and Victoria Flights take over.

Midland Red extended their unbeaten run to seven games in division one of the Harborne and District Summer League when they won 6-3 at Hobsons Choice. Smethwick Labour Club hang on to second spot with a close 5-4 verdict over Ladywood Social Club.

Just four points of average separate the top three teams in the second division. Coopers Arms lost pole position after losing 5-4 at Quinborne Flights and are now level on points with Quinborne and leaders Quinton Members Club, who beat the Cock Inn 6-3.

In division three Bartley Green Social Flights consolidated their number one spot with a massive 8-1 success against Harborne Stores, while their nearest rivals, W.C.WMC Ladies had narrow 5-4 win over Highlander Flights.

It’s as you were at the top of the Brookmeadow Individual League with the top two players, Robert Earl and Gordon Clinton winning their two fixtures 3-0 and 2-1. Earl accounted for Dave Downes and John Goodman, while Clinton defeated Alan Smith and Ricky Lawrence. The gap between the two players remains at ten points with Clinton having a match in hand. Alan Smith was the only player to register a maximum this week, he hit it in his 3-0 reversal against Gordon Clinton.

Three Horse Shoes head the group one table in the Sheldon and District Summer League and enforced their challenge for the title with a 7-2 win over Glebe Community Centre. The win also maintains Shoes 100% record. T.White (Saltley Gardeners) hit a 180 to help his side to an 8-0 win over RAFA, to keep them just two points behind the leaders. EBAHA are a similar two points adrift, they beat Sheldon Heath Dukes 5-3.

S.Bains, P.Taylor (MAlt Shovel) and B.Salter (Stechford Social) also found the three treble twenties, tomorrow night (15-07-2004) the league will be staging round one of their Mrs F.Richman Trophy. The draw is Glebe Community Centre v Iron Horse, Sheldon Shoes v Sedgemere Flights, Old Bill and Bull v EBAHA, Shard End RBL Flights v Banbury Club, Lea Hall Sports and Social v Pavilions, British Telecom Club v Hen and Chickens, RAFA v Chestnuts, Yardley Ex Service Flights v Shard End Social, Harvester v Malt Shovel, Kingshurst Labour Club v Shard End RBL ’A’, Small Heath Gardeners v Mackadown Social, Sheldon Dukes v Three Horse Shoes, Bromford Bridge v Sheldon and Marlboro, Millhouse v Stechford Social, Cricketers v Raven, Gunmakers Arms v Saltley Gardeners.

After a 5-3 win at the Queens, the Globe remain the only undefeated team in division one of the Tamworth Cue Sports League. Just one point separates them from their nearest challengers the Dolphin, who dropped their first point of the campaign when they finished all square at 4-4 with Red Lion ‘B’.

In division two Red Lion ‘B’ lost their first game of the season, going down 5-3 at home against the Boot (Warton). Red Lion stay in top place on four points one more than Cue Sports and Boot (Grendon), who each have a game in hand.

This coming weekend the Warwickshire Darts Organisation will be staging two prestigious competitions at the Barras Social Club, Coventry. On Saturday is the Guinness Open. For an entry fee of £4 the winner will receive a guaranteed £250, plus all entry fees will be paid out to the last eight.

Sunday sees the Midland Open, which carries a top award of £1000 with prize money paid out to the last sixteen players. Entry on the day is £6.
