The George followed up their opening day 9-1 win over the Pheasant in division one of the Harborne and District Summer League with a 6-4 win at home to Quinborne Flights. Smethwick Labour Club are another team to have begun the new campaign in style with 8-2 and 6-4 wins against respective opponents Cock Inn and Bartley Green F.C. Quinton Members Club have won their first two matches beating the Raven 7-3 and the Pheasant 6-4.

In division two all of this week’s four games finished all square at five each, Harborne Stores v Avenue Social, Highlander Flights v Bartley Green Flights, Stonehouse Flights v Old Mill and W.C.WMC Ladies v Greenlands Social.

Congratulations to Fordbridge Social who have won the premier division title of the Sheldon and District Winter League, with Saltley Amateur Gardeners finishing as runners up. The first division title went to Shard End RBL ‘A’, with Sheldon Social missing out by an inferior average. Yardley Ex Service Colts ran away with the second division championship, their nearest rivals, Old Bill and Bull finishing eight points behind.

The singles knockout was won by Martyn Heaven (Three Horse Shoes), who had a straight 2-0 victory over Mick Hicks (Sheldon Dukes) in the final.

Winners in the second round of the Denis Houlders Trophy are Banbury Club, Saltley Gardeners ‘B’, Raven ‘B’, Small Heath Amateur Gardeners, Three Horse Shoes ‘B’ and Iron Horse Flights.

The league will be staging the divisional cup finals tomorrow night and the line up is, Highwood v Three Horse Shoes (Premier division at Sheldon Social), Sheldon Social v RAFA (Div 1 at Yardley Ex Service Club) and Old Bill and Bull (Div 2 at British Telecom Club).

Robbie Earl, leader of the Brookmeadow Individual League, continued his fine form this week with a 3-0 win over John Whitehouse and a 2-1 success aginst Alan Smith in which he hit a maximum and checked out with 131. Earl now has a total of 87 points to his nearest rival, Keith Kelly’s 72. Kelly had a 2-1 win against Dave Elkin and followed that with a 3-0 win over Paul Hogan.

Mitre extended their unbeaten run to twelve games in the Small Heath League when they won a close home tie against third placed Victoria 301 Club 5-4.T.Frost hit a maximum for the winners. Second in the table Custard House had a bye this week, they have now played the same number of games as Mitre and are just two points adrift. Ward End Ex Service and Gunmakers Arms, who in turn are fourth and fifth in the league played each other on the Gunmakers board, the home side getting the close 5-4 verdict.

Dolphin lost ground in the division one title fight in the Tamworth Cue Sports League following their 5-3 defeat at the White Lion. Globe hold on to pole position after their 5-3 win at Red Lion ’B’ and have 15 points to Dolphin’s 14. White Lion are now on 12 the same as Two Gates Club, who ended all square at four each with the Queens. Globe have a game in hand on both Dolphin and White Lion.

Just one point separates the top three teams in the second division. Mercian’s 5-3 win against Hopwas head the table on 16 points, Kettlebrook have the same number of points and won by the same margin in their game with third in the table Cue Sports Club, but are three legs of average behind Mercian. Cue are one point adrift of the leading pair.

Through to the last eight of the G.U.L.P. Charity League Singles Knockout are, C.Stokes, P.Wilding, S.O’Brian, M.O’Sullivan, J.Phipps (Tribe), Matt Cooper, C.Wyatt and Martin Cooper (Tigers).

During the evening I.McLean  hit a maximum and C Stokes recorded a 156 break.
