The final match of the season in the Brook Meadow Individual League produced a nail biting finish to the campaign as the top two players, Robbie Earl and Mark Birch, both former league champions did battle with the result deciding who would take this seasons title. Mark required a straight 3-0 win to claim the winner’s silverware and looked to be well on his way when he opened up a 2-0 lead. In the final leg Robbie left himself on double eighteen with his counterpart throwing for 116. Birch hit treble twenty, single sixteen and narrowly missed the winning double twenty. Robbie then failed on his double to leave 18. Yet again Mark missed his double, but earl did not require another throw as he found the necessary double nine to clinch the title.

Singles and doubles knockouts have also been completed by the league, the singles final bringing together the Winter’s brothers, Carl and Simon. Simon won the tussle 3-1 but the match was closer than the result indicated as Carl had a throw at double twenty to take the match to a deciding leg, but he unfortunately missed and Simon stepped in with a 100 game shot to seal the title.

In the doubles Mark Elkin and Ian McFarlane successfully defended the title, dropping just one leg throughout the competition and beating Ricky Heaven and Simon Winters 3-0 in the final.

In division one of the Pip Club League White Lion suffered their first taste of defeat this season when they went down 5-3 at Red Lion ‘A’, their nearest rivals, who following this result are level on both points and average with them.

In the second division Hopwas Club lead the field, but were involved in a surprising 4-4 draw in their away game against Red Lion ’B’. However, Hopwas hold on to pole position with eleven points, two more than second placed Mercian Club.

At the halfway stage in the Harborne and District 401 Summer League Midland Red remain undefeated with seven straight wins, but despite this they hold just a slender two points advantage over second in the table George. A similar situation exists in division two insomuch as Harborne Stores are top of the pile with a maximum twelve points from six games. The main difference being that Stores have a six points buffer over their nearest rivals Rave, Bartley Green F.C. and Quinborne, who all have six points.

The G.U.L.P. Charity League are also at the midway point in their campaign. Tigers continued their impressive form with a 6-1 win at the Beasts to give them 16 points from eight games. Bromford take over the number two spot after a 5-2 away win against the Tribe, which leaves them just two points adrift of Tigers.

Congratulations go to John Jones and his Tipton men’s team who, have incredibly won the West Midlands Super League title once more. Tipton have now successfully defended the title for the past seventeen years. The last team, other than Tipton, to win the men’s championship, were Ocker Hill and that was way back in 1989, a truly remarkable record.
