With two thirds of the scheduled nine fixtures already played in the premier division of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships, Warwickshire are not having one of the better campaigns. Just one win in six does not make good reading and in the latest encounter away to Staffordshire again Warwickshire finished on the wrong side of a 21-15 verdict.

Both men’s teams lost, the ‘A’ 10-2 and the ‘B’ 7-5, the respective match awards going to Tom Ryan (26.60) and Rob Hawker (29.47). The ladies ’A’ had a cracking 5-1 success, Trina Gulliver (28.36) once again their top player, while the ’B’ side had to settle for a share of the spoils with Caroline Pike (19.73) taking the award.

The Brook Meadow Individual League have had their doubles knockout on the agenda and taking the honours were Mark Elkin and Ian McFarlane. The winning duo squared up to Robbie Earl and Keith Kelly in the final, but with scores of 140,2x121 plus 7x100 overcame the challenge to win 3-1.

League champion Mark Birch and his partner Darren Elkin went out to the eventual runners up in the preliminary round in three straight legs.

Midland Red, leaders of the Four Oaks and District League had a bit of a fright in their home tussle with Hardy Spicer as the visitors took them to the very last game before they clinched a 5-4 victory. Second placed Good Hope Flights also scraped a close 5-4 verdict in their game at Kingstanding Ex Servicemen’s. As a result the Ex Servicemen’s have dropped a place in the table and are now fifth. A 7-2 win at Barn Social sees Anvil Nomads take over third spot and with just a two point’s deficit over the lading pair are still not out of contention for the title.

J.Bradbury (Old Oscott WMC) hit a maximum in his side’s 6-3 win at Rose and Crown.

A convincing 8-1 win at the Colwyn keeps the George’s pole position in division one of the Harborne and District 301 Winter League secure, the George’s cause, assisted by E.Simpson who had a 160 break plus a nine darts game frpm A.Powell. Midland Red had a 7-2 success at Quinton Members Club and are now only two points behind the George with a game in hand. S.Bourne (Bartley Green F.C.) hit a 180, his team however, lost 7-2 to Hillyfields. New Inns broke their duck as they surprisingly beat Smethwick Labour Club 5-4, in the second division Raven have opened up a two points lead over both Old Mill and Cock Inn following their 6-3 win at Harborne Stores and Cock Inn’s similar win against Old Mill.

Bromford Bridge Members Club ’A’ suffered a setback to their Small Heath League title aspirations when they returned from Victoria Flights on the wrong side of a 6-3 result. despite the reversal Bromford remain in pole position, but their nearest rivals Mitre beat Victoria 301 Club 7-2 to move within two points of the leaders and also have the advantage of a game in hand.

On the fixture card for the Tamworth Cue Sports League were the quarter and semi finals of the division one knockout cup. Playing at the Belgrave Club Queens Head ’A’ and Dolphin defeated in turn White Lion and Globe. Losing in the last four were Cue Sports Club, Two Gates Club, Red Lion ’B’ and Red Lion ’A’.

The Barmy Army are the new champions of the G.U.L.P. Charity League following their narrow last leg victory over The Who’s. Who will be runners up is still undecided as both the Tigers and Tribe won 6-1 in turn away to Radley Rebels and Red Lion Flights.

Harvester provided the shock of the week in division two of the Sheldon and District Winter League as they travelled to take on divisional leaders Kingshurst Labour Club who had previously won all of their fixtures. Third in the table Harvester won the tie 5-4.
