A LOOK BACK IN TIME - 22.12.2004
There were wins for the top two teams in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League as Saltley Amateur Gardeners eased to a close 5-4 verdict at home to Toby Jug and Fordbridge Social beat Iron Horse 6-3. In the top half battle between Three Horse Shoes and Highwood, it was the away side, Highwood who got the 6-3 result despite a ten darts leg from Shoes player B.Allen.
There was a shock for division one title chasers Banbury Club as they went down 5-4 at the Raven, M.Downes and C.Winters producing respective finishes of 100 and 107 for the hosts. Shard End RBL was another top team to suffer an unexpected defeat as they lost 5-4 at the Pavilions, while Shard End Social travelled to take on RAFA and won 6-3.
Old Bill and Bull’s hopes of winning the division two championship were inflated with a 7-2 away victory against the Gunmakers Arms.

As the new season gets underway in the Small Heath League Gunmakers Arms are table toppers after the opening fixture with an 8-1 win at the Victoria. Victoria 301 Club are a close second beating Victoria Flights 7-2. Other teams to win the first match of the campaign are Custard House and Ward End Ex Service Club at the expense of McVeighs and Innisfree. Comet had a bye.

Cup fixtures were on the agenda for the Four Oaks and District League in the form of the Ian Cooper Memorial Cup. Winners of the three a side competition were the Midland Red ’A’ team represented by B.Linnecore, M.Corfield and J.Kavanagh, who beat Pint Pot’s ‘A’ team, G.Redfern, C.Vickers and T.Vickers 2-1 in the final.

Red Arrows are flying high in the Forest of Arden Winter League as they lead the field for the title honours. This week’s game away to Sheldon Ivy Leaf did their aspirations no harm at all as they chalked up a very convincing 8-1 victory. B.Allen did his share for Arrows as he recorded not only a tremendous 151 checkout, but also a nine darts leg. Mackadown Sports and Social kept in touch with Red Arrows as they accounted for Greville Arms with a 7-2 scoreline.
Farringdon Social and Sheldon Heath Social Flights both won 6-3 as in turn they took on Greville Arrows and Harvester.

West Midlands did not finish 2004 on a happy note in division three of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships as they went down 20-16 away to Gloucestershire, in fact they have not had a very good start to their season as after four games they have won 1 and lost three.
The ladies had a disastrous weekend as both teams found themselves trailing 4-0 before recording their one and only winner. For the ‘A’ it was Kath Jenkins (15.78) and the ‘B’ Debbie Hackett (18.11).
Both men’s teams finished as 7-5 winners and taking the match awards were Chris Hickman (28.36) for the ‘A’ and Lol Frazer (29.64) for the ‘B’.
