Warwickshire, after two straight defeats in the premier division of the Kaliber BDO Inter Counties Championships have bounced back to winning ways at home to local rivals Staffordshire. Playing at Canley Sports and Social Club, Coventry the weekend began with a 4-2 win for the ladies ’B’, Betty Sinnett (20.31) their top player. The men’s ’B’ like the ladies chalked up their first win since the first day of the season, beating their counterparts 7-5 with Tom McGlone taking the match award with his 28.84 average.

On Sunday the ladies maintained their unbeaten run with their third consecutive 3-3 draw, a 24.64 average from Clare Bywaters helping them on their way. To round off the 22-14 victory the men’s ’A’ won 8-4, Scott Mitton (28.98) man of the match.

Midland Red continue to press for honours in division one of the Four Oaks and District League beating Pint Pot 7-2 to keep them in pole position. Red’s nearest rivals, Yenton Exiles and Old Oscott Arrows squared up to each other on Arrows board and despite 160 breaks for Yenton from A.Stainfield and B.Stephens it was Arrows who got the close 5-4 verdict to take them into second spot level on points with Midland Red. Yenton now drop into third place.

In division two the top three teams did not play this week, but fourth placed Leopard travelled to the Saints and with a 160 break from M.Sheppard returned with a 6-3 win. Other top individual performances were provided by R Hawker (Midland Red) and P.Allen (Anvil Nomads) who both hit a maximum.

Red Arrows stay on track for the Forest of Arden Winter League title as they recorded their sixteenth win in seventeen games when they beat Greville Arms 6-3. Mackadown Sports and Social kept in touch with the leaders by winning 7-2 at Sheldon Ivy Leaf but still remain four points adrift. Paul Vasey had breaks of 160 and 101 for the Harvester as they accounted for Greville Arrows with a 6-3 scoreline.

A maximum from S.Heeley, plus a 7-3 win over the Pheasant gives the George 20 points, two more than the rest of the field in division one of the Harborne and District Winter League. Midland Red and Raven remain two points behind the George as they won in turn 7-3 against Hillyfields and 8-2 against Coopers Arms.

In the second division Quinborne Flights have a massive eight points lead over their opponents. Their recent fixture away to Harborne Stores saw them win 9-0. Quinton Members Club and the Cock Inn are both on 14 points and are Quinborne’s nearest challengers.

On the individual front there were 180’s for S.Wenlock (Bartley Green FC) and D.Bourne (Midland Red), while M.Wakefield (Smethwick Labour Club) had a 160 break.

Saltley Amateur Gardeners faltered in their bid for the premier title in the Sheldon and District Winter League when they lost 5-4 at home to middle of the table Malt Shovel. Despite a 180 and a 160 break from K.Richards, plus a 146 break from D.Kelly second placed Fordbridge Social had aclose 5-4 win at the Toby Jug. G.Stych broke with 160 for Fordbridge.

In division one Sheldon Social lost their number two position after losing 5-4 at home to the Raven. They have now dropped to third place with Banbury Club overtaking them following their 6-3 win against British Telecom Club.

After completing five fixtures in the Small Heath League no fewer than four teams are level on eight points. A 9-0 win over the Victoria see’s Victoria 301 Club head the table, while second placed Ward End Ex Service Club beat Wagon and Horses 5-4. Custard House are third, they handed out a 9-0 whitewash to Victoria Flights and to complete the four positions is the Mitre who won 6-3 at McVeighs.

There were mixed fortunes for the leading three teams in the Tamworth Cue Sports League. White Lion were held to a 4-4 draw by lowly Queens, second placed Red Lion ’A’ lost for the first time in this campaign, losing 6-2 at home to the Globe and third placed Dolphin were the only one of the top three to gain a win, they beat Two Gates Club 6-2.

In division two Mercian lost their 100% record as they surprisingly lost 5-3 away to bottom of the table Boot (Grendon). Kettlebrook have taken over the number one spot as a result of their 7-1 win at the Three Horse Shoes.
