The George, leaders of division one of the Harborne and District 301 Winter League consolidated their number one position with a resounding 8-1 victory at Quinton Members Club, while their nearest rivals, Hillyfields suffered a setback to their title aspirations going down 5-4 at Smethwick Labour Club. Third in the table Midland Red had a convincing 8-1 success in their home tie with Bartley Green F.C. with R.Kinsella recording the league’s highest finish so far 153. New Inns remain the only team in the division without a win as they lost 6-3 at home to Colwyn.
In division two three teams are locked together on 10 points, Raven, who beat Highlander 7-2 have the better average and hold pole position. Old Mill and Cock Inn are second and third respectively, both won 5-4 in turn against Harborne Stores and W.C.WMC.

Midland Red and Kingstanding Ex Servicemen’s, the two top teams in the Four Oaks and District League both lost this week, top team Midland Red hold on to the top spot despite finishing on the wrong side of a 5-4 result to Anvil Nomads, while Kingstanding, following their similar 5-4 defeat against Hill Social have dropped into fifth place in the table. Old Oscott WMC’s 6-3 win over local rivals Old Oscott Arrows have taken over second place with the same 18 points as Good Hope Flights, both of them two points adrift of the Reds. The match between Hardy Spicer and Bromford Lions produced some top class darts with J.Collins (Bromford Lions) narrowly missing out on what would have been a tremendous six darts leg, finishing the game on his seventh dart and Spicer’s A.Bath recording a 160 break plus a nine darts leg.

Mark Birch is making a superb effort in his bid to retain the Brook Meadow Individual League title. In his latest matches, with scores of 180,140,135 and 4x100 he beat Mark Elkin 2-1 and then went on win 3-0 against Carl Winters in which he scored 3x140,125,123,2x100 and produced a 14 darts winning leg. Birch now has 72 points and has opened up a nine points lead over Robbie Earl and Simon Winters.

It was a case of top versus bottom in division one of the Sheldon and District Winter League when leaders Lea Hall Sports and Social travelled to take on Iron Horse. The result was a resounding, but somewhat surprising 5-4 victory for Iron Horse.
Top individual performances this week were supplied by, D.Elliott (Castle Vale Residents Association),D.Brown (Gunmakers Arms) who both hit a maximum, P.Stevens (Fordbridge Social) had a 160 break and R.Evans (Pavilions) who recorded an eight darts leg.

The singles knockout was on the fixture card for the Small Heath League and taking the title was Mitre’s representative Pat Koyce. Koyce lifted the crown with a final success over fellow team mate Trevor Frost.
Losing semi finalists were David Ali, again from the Mitre and Paul Wilding (Victoria Flights).

Both divisions in the Tamworth Cue Sports League have two teams running neck and neck for the title and leaving the rest of the field behind. In division one Globe and Queens Head ’A’ are both on 21 points with Red Lion ’A’ eight points adrift in third place. Three Horse Shoes and Royal Oak are the trail blazers in the second division on 19 points, Mercian are their nearest threat back on 15 points.

A 7-0 win over Red Lion Flights saw Barmy Army make it ten wins in as many games in the G.U.L.P. Charity League. On 20 points the Army are six ahead of second in the table Tigers, who beat Red Devils 6-1.
