A Look Back In time - 27.07.05
The battle for honours continues at the top of the Brookmeadow Individual League as leader Mark Birch chalked up two further 2-1 victories over Bill Cadby and Alan Smith, while second in the table Robbie Earl opened this week’s games with a 2-1 win against John Whitehouse and followed that with a 3-0 success over Darren Elkin to reduce the deficit to four points.
Quickest game of the week was provided by Robbie Earl, who in his game against John Whitehouse recorded a fourteen darts leg. Whitehouse then came close to Earl’s feat when he took just sixteen darts in his 3-0 win over Paul Hogan.

Hillyfields maintained their four points lead in division one of the Harborne and District Summer League with a convincing 6-1 win at Quinborne Flights. However their nearest rivals, the George kept themselves well in touch when they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to the Pheasant. Third placed Midland Red had a comfortable 5-2 win over Bartley Green F.C. and although six points behind the leaders do have a game in hand.
In the second division newcomers Colwyn hold on to pole position but have had their advantage reduced following their shock 4-3 home defeat at the hands of the Greenlands team. A 4-3 win at Stonehouse Flights has seen W.C. WMC Ladies move to within two points of Colwyn.

Saltley Amateur Gardeners dropped their first point of the campaign ion group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League when the best they could do at Sheldon Dukes was draw 4-4. Just one point separates the Gardeners from Fordbridge Social, who beat Mackadown Social 5-3. Dukes are third a further one point behind.
There was a top of the table clash in group six as leaders Victoria Social travelled to the Old Bill and Bull who were second in the group. The result was a surprising 6-2 in favour of the home side to put them within one point of their counterparts with a game in hand.
Also on the agenda for the league has been round one of the Mrs F. Richman Trophy. Biggest win of the round went to Fordbridge Social and Mackadown Social, who with a 9-0 scorelines took out respective opponents Yardley Ex Service Flights and Glebe Community Centre. Other teams through to round two are, Bromford Bridge Members Club, Brookmeadow, Gunmakers Arms, Shard End RBL ’A’, Kingshurst Labour Club, Malt Shovel, Millhouse, Shard End Social. Raven, Lea Hall Sports and Social, Harvester, Stechford Social, Willclare Social and Banbury Club.

The G.U.L.P. Charity League played off their mixed doubles knockout and taking the honours were Tigers representatives Colin Wyatt and Amanda Cooper, who beat team mates Martin Cooper and Gemma Stubbs in the final. Amanda hit the winning double in the deciding leg to secure a close 2-1 victory over her brother and give her partner his second doubles title of the season.

Top shots in the South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League were provided by Stirchley Wanderers A.O’Brien and Bournbrook Arrows Paul Shakespeare, both of whom recorded maximums. Fastest leg of the week came from M.O’Donnel, who recorded a ten darts leg in Yardley Wood Social Club’s 5-2 win over Longbridge 26’ers.
