A LOOK BACK IN TIME - 28.07.2004
The South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League have been involved in the play-off of their doubles knockouts. For the men the winners were Andy Beagrie and Chris Bayliss, who in their final encounter defeated Kevin Beard and Tony Young. Losing semi-finalists were Mal Ford / Alan Wright and Barry Thomas / George Bird.
In the ladies event it was Kerry McCurry and Dawn Barbier who lifted the crown at the expense of mother and daughter pairing Cynthia and Tracey Goddard. Losing out in the last four were Jane Hollyoake / Maggie Smith and Yvonne Marriott / Georgina Brookes.

The first round of the Mrs F.Richman Trophy has been on the agenda for the Sheldon and District Summer League. Providing the giant killing stories were Iron Horse (Group 2) who beat Glebe Community Centre (Group 1) 5-2, Sedgemere Flights (Group 6) who won 4-3 against Sheldon Shoes (Group 5) and Bromford Bridge Members Club (Group 5) who accounted for Group 4 team Sheldon and Marlboro Club.
In an all group four encounter leaders Banbury Club were beaten 5-2 by Shard End RBL Flights, who are currently near the bottom of the group table.
Other teams to progress into the next round are, EBAHA, Lea Hall Sports and Social, Hen and Chickens, RAFA, Shard End Social, Malt Shovel, Shard End RBL ’A’, Mackadown Social, Three Horse Shoes, Stechford Social, Raven and Saltley Amateur Gardeners.

Both of the top two players in the Brookmeadow Individual League added more wins to their tally this week in their quest for the top prize. Leader Robert Earl, on 120 points, beat Pay Koyce 3-0 and then accounted for Mark Elkin with a 2-1 result. Gordon Clinton, eleven points adrift of the Earl chalked up two 2-1 wins against Brendan Lysaught and Dave Downes and then with a 3-0 scoreline defeated Trevor Frost.
Hitting 180’s were John Whitehouse, Ricky Lawrence, Robert Earl and Gordon Clinton.

After completing the opening six fixtures in the Small Heath Summer League, only six points of average separate the top three teams, Custard House, Victoria 301 Club and Station Hotel. With a maximum from Kevin Maloney, Custard House had a fine 6-3 home win over Innisfree, to keep them in pole position, while second in the table Victoria 301 Club beat Gunmakers Arms 5-4 and third placed Station Hotel had a convincing 7-2 win over Ward End Ex Service Club.

The Tamworth Cue Sports League have been busy with the first two rounds of their Open Cup Knockout Competition. Split into two groups of eight teams, the first eight winners going through to the combined semi finals are Two Gates Club, who beat White Lion and the Globe who took out Red Lion ’A’. In the second group the winners were Kettlebrook and Dolphin at the expense of Jolly Sailor and Mercian.
The draw for the semi-finals, which will be played on the 25th November is, Two Gates Club v Globe and Kettlebrook v Dolphin.
The winner of the league’s Peter Webb Knockout Competition was S.Liddell, with K.Haddon taking the runners up trophy.
