A Look Back In Time 28-12-2005
After three convincing opening victories in the Harborne and District 301 Winter League, over Quinton Members Club, New Inns and Bartley Green F.C, Hillyfields, in their fourth game of the season have lost their unbeaten record. Playing at home against the George, who also had a 100% win record, Hillyfields went down 6-3. Old Mill had a good result at the Pheasant, again a 6-3 margin, aided by a 160 break from R.Waldron.
Smethwick Labour Club extended their winning run with a close 5-4 verdict at home to the Clolwyn, while at the other end of the table Bartley Green F.C. are still seeking their first win of the campaign as they lost 5-4 at Quinton Members Club.

The Four Oaks and District League have been busy with their Individual Knockout. Two venues hosted the early rounds to take the competition through to the last two players. At the Good hope Club the first semi-final saw C.Forsyth (Anvil Nomads) beat Barn Social’s J.West in two straight legs, while the second of the semi’s between A.Stainfield (Kingstanding Ex Servicemen’s) and C.Millward (Good Hope Flights) was a much closer affair with the former winning 2-1.
The final was another narrow 2-1 victory for Stainfield in what was described as “one of the league’s most entertaining and closest games for years”.
Barn Social was the second of the venues, Midland Red and Kingstanding Ex Servicemen’s Club each providing two of the last four players. In the opening semi-final A.Whitehouse (Kingstanding) chalked up a clear 2-0 victory over G.Bushell (Midland Red), but it was Midland Red’s turn to win in the other semi as T.Lewis overcame the challenge of B.Stephens to win 2-1. Lewis then went on to win the final 2-1 to claim his place in the grand-final against A.Stainfield on the 25th April.

The Small Heath League produced a battle of the Bromford’s when Bromford Bridge Members Club ’A’ took on the local rivals Bromford Bridge Members Club ’B’. The outcome was a clear cut 7-2 victory for the ’A’ team to give them a total of 20 points from ten games and a six points lead at the top of the table over their nearest rivals Mitre, whose match was cancelled and now have a game in hand. Custard House suffered a setback to title aspirations. Third in the table they hosted fifth placed Victoria 301 Club and surprisingly lost 6-3 to leave them eight points adrift of the leaders and level on points with Innisfree who beat Victoria Flights 5-4.

With the majority of teams having completed nine fixtures in the G.U.L.P. Charity League Barmy Army are in pole position and have opened up a three points lead over the Tigers who are currently second. The Tribe are third, two points behind Tigers, but they have played one game fewer.
