A Look Back in Time - 29.6.05

It has not been a good week for Robbie Earl, reigning champion of the Brookmeadow Individual League. After kicking off the new season with four consecutive wins Earl then squared up to Keith Kelly and despite recording 3x140’s and 3x100’s to Kelly’s 140 and 100 went down 2-1. Earl then took on Mark Birch. In this encounter Birch hit 123 plus 6x100’s to Earl’s 140 and 3x100’s and again he finished on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline.

The league table has now taken on a very strange look as Earl has dropped from pole to sixth position, his lowest for two seasons. He has been overtaken by Bill Cadby, Andy Smith, Mark Birch, Mark Elkin and current leader Mark Showering, who has 25 points, five more than Earl.

The 301 club now have 20 points and are third in the table, Gunmakers Arms, who beat Innisfree 6-3 are fourth and Ward End fifth with the same 20 points as Gunmakers.

Tigers made it eight wins in as many games in the G.U.L.P. Charity League with a clear cut 5-2 win at the Tribe. Although they lost Tribe move up into second spot on average over Hardy Spicer, who were second but lost 6-1 at the Malt Shovel. Three teams, Tribe, Hardy Spicer and Malt Shovel are now all level on ten points, four behind the Tigers. Red Lion top the shadow league following their 4-3 win against the Victoria 301 Club.

Hardy Spicer’s B.Clarke chalked up a 160 break, while C.Wyatt (Tigers) hit a maximum.
