A Look Back in Time - 22.6.22
Division one of the Harborne and District Summer League was the scene of a top of the table clash this week, when the top two teams Midland Red and Smethwick Labour Club met on the Red’s board. D Bourne was in fine form for the hosts chalking up not only a 160 break but also a 180. However, it was not enough to earn the home side a win as the result finished all square at five each. The Labour club remain in pole position on 12 points with Midland Red and Hillyfields, who had a massive 9-1 home win over the Pheasant, two points behind. Raven’s J.Gardner hit a maximum as his side went down 6-4 at home to Quinborne Flights.
In the second division newcomers Colwyn extended their unbeaten run to six games by beating the Old Mill 6-4. W.C.WMC Ladies kept the gtap between them and the leaders to just two points with a 6-4 win at Bartley Green Flights, despite a 160 break from I.Butler.

Robbie Earl, reigning champion of the Brookmeadow Individual League, has begun the current campaign where he left off the previous, winning. After the opening four fixtures Earl is undefeated and only dropped two legs out of twelve. In this week’s games Robbie had straight 3-0 wins over Paul Smith and Paul Hogan. econd placed Mark Birch, with two points fewer than Earl, lost his first of the season when he went down 2-1 to Mark Elkin. However, he was quick to respond as he beat Mark Showering 3-0.
Hitting maximums this week were Bill Cadby and Keith Kelly who also had a fifteen darts leg.

The Sheldon and District Winter League have been busy with various finals as their season draws to an end to make way for the summer season. In the round robin Vice Presidents Trophy Highwood’s Andy Hutchings took the honours by beating Anthony Dews (Millhouse) 3-0 and Neil Parsonage (Banbury Club) 2-1.
The Punch Bowl title was fought out between Castle Vale Residents Association and Three Horse Shoes, with the former just getting the 5-4 edge. Losing semi finalists were Fordbridge Social and Shard End RBL.
The Sheldon Shield final was also a close 5-4 result with Glebe Community Centre getting the better of Hen and Chickens.
The Jubilee trophy saw the league’s team secretaries and league officials do battle the evntual winner being match secretary David Sutton, who won by the best of three legs against league chairman and Fordbridge Social representative Alan Mayell.

Tamworth Cue Sports League were involved in their Division Two Cup. The semi-finals were won by Three Horse Shoes and Royal Oak, who in turn beat Pretty Pigs and Boot (Grendon). The two winners will meet in the final at a later date.
Also played off were the divisional shadow league finals. In division one it was Red Lion ‘A’ with a final win over the Queens who lifted the trophy, while in the second division final Royal Oak (Kingsbury) and Boot (Grendon) were the last two teams, with the former taking the title.

Cup matches were also on the agenda for the Small Heath League, first the semi-finals of the KO Cup. League leaders Mitre booked their place in the final by defeating Bromford Social Club, while their nearest league rivals, Custard House, made their somewhat surprising exit at the hands of Victoria 301 Club.
In the Upside Down Cup the final will comprise of Gunmakers Arms and Ward End Ex Service Club after their respective wins over Innisfree and McVeighs.

The singles knockout was on the fixture card for the G.U.L.P. Charity League and it was Tribe representative Chris Stokes who won the crown for the second time in three years. Chris was in fine form throughout and although taken the full distance in the final by Colin Wyatt (Tigers) he still got the all important 2-1 verdict.
