Midland Red kicked off the new Harborne and District 401 Summer League with a 6-3 victory over Smethwick Labour Club in a game that produced no fewer than 39 scores of a ton or more including two maximums provided by P.Brotherton (Midland Red) and A.Arnold (Smethwick Labour Club). George’s A.Powelll also notched a 180 as his team recorded a close 5-4 win against Bartley Green F.C. Other teams chalking up 5-4 wins were Old Mill and Cock Inn who in turn accounted for Quinton Members Club and Quinton Members Club Flights, not a good start of season for Quinton.

Former champion of the Brook Meadow Individual League, Robbie Earl has opened up a massive eleven points lead over the rest of the field. Earl took his pints tally to 104 from 26 games with a 2-1 success over Keith Kelly and followed that with a straight 3-0 win against Andy Sheen. Second in the table is reigning champion Mark Birch who also had 3-0 and 2-1 wins over respective opponents Mark Elkin and Ricky Heaven.

Hitting maximums were Carl Winters, Jason Evans, Mark Birch (2), Ian McFarlane and Simon Winters.

White Lion enforced their bid for honours in division one of the Pip Club League with an emphatic 7-1 victory in their away game at Two Gates Club. However, second in the table Globe are only behind with a two legs deficit after beating Red Lion ‘A’ 5-3.

In division two Hopwas Club are in pole position, making it two wins in as many games with a 5-3 home success over Mercian Club. Tamworth Sports Bar dropped a point when they were only able to draw 4-4 hosting Boot Inn. Nevertheless Hopwas hold on to second spot on three points, just one adrift of the leaders.

The Lions moved off the bottom of the table in the G.U.L.P. Charity League with an impressive 5-2 win at the Sharks. In form Tigers continued their bid for the title by handing Bromford their first defeat of the campaign, a 5-2 win putting Tigers into the number one spot. The tribe hang on to second place with a 5-2 win at The Who’s, while Beasts take over the number four position after dishing out a 7-0 whitewash to No Hopers. Barmy Army, who had a 5-2 win at Red Devils are third.

Tomorrow evening the Sheldon and District Winter League will be playing off their Vice Presidents Trophy. The event, in which the league’s divisional players with the most wins play off for the title will be staged at the league headquarters, Lea Hall Sports and Social Club and will get underway at 8.00pm.

The Four Oaks and District League are accepting entries for their forthcoming season the AGM will be held at Good Hope Social Club, Sutton Coldfield on the 25th June at 10.30am, anyone interested in joining the league should contact league secretary Mr A.T.Lewis on 0121-240-4719.
