
A Look Back In Time 24.05.2006
The Sheldon and District Winter League have played off their doubles knockout in which there were some top flight performances, none better than the form produced by the eventual winners J.Norris and M.Wall form the Highwood.
Playing down from the last sixteen the champions did not drop a single leg, beating P.Perryman / P.Quinn (Glebe Farm Ca), M.Noonan / A.McCrave (Banbury Club), P.Randell / I.McLean (Saltley Amateur Gardeners) and in the final A.Grainger and D.Grainger who represented Fordbridge Social.
The event produced two maximums, the first from J.Prince (Fordbridge Social) in the last sixteen and J.Norris in the quarter finals.
Tomorrow evening the league will be staging various finals. At Lea Hall British Legion will be the M & B Divisional cup in which the Hen and Chickens (Premier), Yardley Ex Colts (Division One) and Gables Tavern (Division Two) will do battle. Lea Hall will also be the setting for the semi-finals and final of the Sheldon Shield. Teams involved are Iron Horse, RAFA, Shard End RBL Flights and Shard End Social. The Punch Bowl finals will take place at Sheldon Heath Social Club and chasing the title will be Vaughans, Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Brook Meadow and Fordbridge Social.

There will be a meeting for the Sheldon and District Summer League this coming Sunday at the league’s headquarters Lea Hall Sports and Social Club. The meeting will begin at 10.30am. Team secretaries are reminded to bring along completed registration cards. The new season will get underway on Thursday 8th June.

The Lions are the early pacesetters in the Pip Club League. In division one it is White Lion who lead the field, a convincing 7-1 away win over Two Gates Club making it two in a row and four points. Globe trail by just two legs of average on White Lion, their latest success being a 5-3 home win against Red Lion ’A’.
In division two it’s Red Lion (Polesworth) who are currently in pole position. Red Lion ’B’ were the latest victims to fall 5-3 to the leaders, but again they are only on top by average, this time three legs with Hopwas Club second. Hopwas beat Mercian Club 5-3.

It was shocks all round in the G.U.L.P. Charity League as two of the leading three teams lost their 100% record. Tigers who were top of the table lost their home tie with Barmy Army by 4-3, while The Tribe, who also had a home fixture went down 5-2 to The Beasts. Bromford, who had a bye are now the only team to remain unbeaten.
In the other fixtures played The Who’s chalked up a massive 7-0 win, handing out a whitewash to No Hopers. Lions won their home game against Red Devils.
