A Look Back in time - 8.6.05
Congratulations to Fordbridge Social, champions of the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League. Fordbridge took the honours finishing just two points ahead of the nearest rivals Saltley Amateur Gardeners. The Shadow League title went to Castle Vale Residents Association, who with ten points had a clear four points advantage over runners up Hen and Chickens.
As the season draws to an end the league have been busy with various finals such as the doubles knockout in which Saltley Amateur Gardeners representatives T.White and T.Randell lifted the silverware after defeating the Three Horse Shoes pairing of M.Heaven and R.South. In the divisional cup finals Highwood had a convincing 8-1 victory over Three Horse Shoes to win the premier division title, while in divisions one and two it was a much close affair. Both results were 5-4 with Sheldon Social beating RAFA for the first division title and Old Bill and Bull getting the better of Small Heath Amateur Gardeners despite a 180 from I.Durrington.
Glebe Community Centre won the M & B Cup following victories against Sheldon and Marlboro and in the final Harvester.
The league will be holding their AGM to form the 2005/2006 season on Sunday 26th June at the headquarters Lea Hall Sports and Social Club beginning at 10.30am.All teams must return their application form and be represented at this meeting.

The Tamworth Cue Sports League has also been engaged in cup fixtures, theirs being the Division One Cup, which they staged at the Belgrave Club. In the first round there were wins for Red Lion ‘B’, Dolphin and the Globe, in turn at the expense of White Lion, Red Lion ‘A’ and the Queens, Two Gates Club had a bye. The semi-finals saw Two Gates Club beat Red Lion ‘B’ and Dolphin take out the Globe.
The final between Two Gates Club and Dolphin will be played off at a later date.

The biggest question in the Small Heath League is will anyone beat leaders Mitre, who have now completed fourteen fixtures and maintained their winning run with a 5-4 verdict over McVeighs. Although Mitre have such a formidable record they are only two points clear of Custard House, who had a comfortable 7-2 win at Victoria Flights. In the battle of the Victoria’s, 301 Club beat Victoria Inn 6-3 to consolidate their number three position, six points more than fourth placed Ward End Ex Service Club.
In the shadow league Gunmakers Arms lead the way on six points from a possible ten, with McVeighs close behind on four points.
