A Look Back In Time - Alan Towe 05.09.2001

Congratulations to Richie (The Don) Shenton who has won the Minworth Social Individual League title. Shenton completed his programme with a 3-0 success over Dave Downes and a 2-1 win against Brian Brooks to give him a total points of 133. Last seasons champion Dave Shorthouse made a spirited bid to retain the title but not even 3-0 wins against Paul Burnham and Tony Whitehouse were enough to give him the required amount of points. On 127 points Shorthouse finished as runner up.

Hitting maximums in the final week of fixtures were Mick Bagley who hit three against Adrian Hammersley in a 2-1 win. Other players, Steve Cain, Dave Shorthouse, Steve Hawkes, Darren White, Mark Slater, Scott Mitton and Lee Griffiths all hit one each.

The league’s singles knockout turned out to be a battle of the giants with champion Richie Shenton taking on last seasons champion and this years runner up Dave Shorthouse. The result was an emphatic 7-3 success for the in form Shenton. However, in the doubles event Shenton, who teamed up with Mark Slater had to satisfy himself with the runners up trophy as they went down 5-3 to Pat Koyce and Adrian Hammersley.
