A Look Back In Time - Alan Towe 29.08.2001

There was a shock defeat for Ladywood Social in division one of the Harborne 401 Summer League. Playing at home Ladywood went down 5-4 to Hobsons Choice in what was a very close encounter. No fewer than 42 scores of a ton or more were recorded in the Lickey Banker versus the George fixture. However, the result was a clear cut 7-2 to the away side, the George. Raven also had a comfortable 7-2 away success against Bartley Green F.C.

In the second division Kings Highway maintained their pole position with an emphatic 8-1 win at home to the Stonehouse.

In a re arranged Knockout Cup fixture Lickey Banker, with a 160 break by K.Vaughan defeated the George 5-4, in what was another very close game.

Dave Shorthouse has been ousted from the number one spot in the Minworth Social Individual League. Dave was part of his own downfall as he lost his opening match against Derek Fardon 2-1 and although he then won by the same margin against Richie Baker it was not enough.

New leader Richie Shenton was playing catch up this week as he played off some of the previous fixtures that had been postponed. In total Richie played four games and in those four he won three against Steve Brindley, Adrian Hammersley and Mick Smith 3-0. Richie’s other game against Steve Hine he won 2-1. Now after 30 matches Richie has 124 points, seven more than the reigning champion and second placed Dave Shorthouse who has aslo played 30 games.

Pat Koyce was also in fine form as he beat Richie Baker 3-0. In the process Pat hit 180,4x140,118,100 and checked out on 101. He recorded an eleven darts leg in his win. Other players to hit a maximum were Richie Baker, Gary Mills, Steve Hawkes, Dave Shorthouse, Steve Cain and Richie Shenton.

Congratulations go to Custard House ‘B’ and Saltley Flights who in turn won the Knockout Cup and Upside Down Cup in the Small Heath Summer League. Custard House won their title with a final success over Black Horse, the result 5-4, while Saltley handed out a crushing 9-0 whitewash to Montgomerys in their final.

In division ‘A’ of the Forest of Arden Summer League the match between Shedlon Heath Social and Highwood finished all square at five each. There were highlights for both sides as M.Hicks recorde a 160 break for Sheldon and N.Green chalked up a maximum for Highwood, Harvester were the week’s biggest winners as they, with an 8-2 scoreline accounted for Hobs Meadow Mixes.

In division ‘B’ Heart of England’s home tie with Acocks Green finished in a 5-5 draw.

The Black Horse, Green Lane, Small Heath are organising a 24 hours darts marathon. The event will take place on the 13th and 14th of October with all monies raised going to Debra and the Children’s Hospital.
