Highwood Arrows continue to impress in their first season in the Forest of Arden Winter League as they handed out a 9-0 whitewash to Mackadown Social to put them top of the table after three games. Highwood, Stechford Social and Glades are the only other teams able to boast a 100% record. Highwood beat Farringdon Social 8-1, Stechford had a 6-3 win against Cock and Hens and Glades won 5-4 at Sheldon Heath Flights. The shock of the week was the 8-1 win by Harvester over reigning champions Red Arrows. Arrows Alan Price hit a maximum and Wayne Mathews (Hobs Meadow) recorded a 160 break.

Cup matches were on the Aston League’s agenda, in the K.O. Cup Heartlands had a resounding 9-0 win over Old Oscott WMC, while Kings Ex Service won 6-3 at home to King Edward.

There was a 6-3 win for Highcroft Social against Tennis Courts in the Aristocrat Cup and a 5-4 success for Yew Tree against Mitre.

Leicestershire’s Jez Porter took the top £750 prize in the Midland Open 2002 at the Barras Social Club, Coventry. Porter took the title with a final 5-4 victory over Worcestershire player Andy Smith. Best local representation came from Wayne Jones (West Midlands) who finished joint third. Wayne’s team-mate and namesake, Ian Jones was placed joint fifth.

In an effort to raise funds for Warwickshire Youth darts the Cherry Tree Open 2002 will be staged on Saturday 14th December at the Cherry Tree Sports and Social Club, Lythalls Lane, Coventry. The event carries a top prize of £600, with cash awards down to the losing semi-finalists.

Entries, together with the £5 fee should be forwarded to the Steve Crowther at the Cherry Tree Club.

In the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League Malt Shovel maintained their unbeaten run with a 6-3 win at Hobs Meadow, which leaves Hobs still seeking their first win of the campaign. Second placed Fordbridge Social also have a 100% record and their 7-2 win over Castle Vale Residents leaves them just behind Malt Shovel on average.

In division one, Plume of Feathers chalked up their first points with a 6-3 win bottom of the table Banbury Club. Lea Hall Sports and Social’s 6-3 home win over Victoria Social takes them into pole position as last week’s leaders, Old Bill and Bull suffered their first defeat, a 6-3 reversal at the hands of the Millhouse team.

Wednesfield consolidated their position at the top of the men’s table in the West Midlands Super League when they defeated Oldbury 6-3. Two teams, Wednesbury and Tipton are the only remaining unbeaten sides. Wednesbury are third four points behind the leaders with 18 points and have a game in hand, while Tipton have two games in hand and are ten points adrift of the top.

In the women’s league Wolverhampton lead the field with 11 points from three games, Warley are second with the same points having played one game more.

With 62 points Martin Tibbetts is leader of the Club 99 Classic 4 League. Tibbetts has a nine points advantage over his nearest rival Frank Johnson.
