In the Forest of Arden Winter League’s curtain raiser last season’s top two teams, Red Arrows (champions) and Hobs Meadow (runners up) met on the Arrows board. Despite a 160 break from Meadow’s Mick Benson the 5-4 result went in favour of Arrows. A couple of new teams to the league, Glades and Highwood Arrows made a quick impact on the league, the former beating Three Horse Shoes 5-4 and the latter, one of the pre-season favourites for the title, chalked up a 6-3 win over the Harvester. Bob Vines hit a maximum for Highwood Arrows.

There were a couple of shock results in the Aston Winter League as last week’s leaders, Heartlands, lost for the first time this season, a 5-4 defeat at Old Oscott WMC. Tennis Courts provided the second surprise. After four consecutive losses, they took on fellow strugglers King Edward and gained their first win, 5-4. KCA (8-1) and Kings Ex Service (7-2) both maintained their 100% records with respective wins against Yew Tree and Aston Social. Mitre, with 160 breaks from D.Ali and R.McGlaughlin, had a good 6-3 win at the Highcroft, while J.Armstrong recorded a similar feat for Aston Social.

A.Dawson’s 180 and nine darts leg helped Anvill Nomads to a close 5-4 win at Old Oscott WMC, but J.Miller’s 180 was not enough for his team, Bromford Social, to avoid a 7-2 defeat at Midland Red.
In division two Plough and Harrow were top scorers as they whitewashed Cat and Fiddle 9-0. The Duke were not far behind as they, with an 8-1 scoreline accounted for Elmsdale.
