A Look Back in Time - Alan Towe 2000-01-12
Week ten of the Bass Breweries and Bristan Ltd sponsored Minworth Double Top League produced a top of the league clash between leader Alan Mayell and fifth placed Dean Grainger. Mayell with 2x140,137 and 3x100 was in magnificent form and although his opponent replied with 5x100 the close 2-1 verdict went in Mayell’s favour. Mayell has now completed 20 fixtures from which he has amassed 80 points, ten more than his nearest rival Alan Grainger, who in his latest encounter took on and beat Gordon Clinton 2-1. In his win Grainger hit 5x100 plus a maximum to Clinton’s 140,110 and 100. Although Grainger has played two fewer games than Mayell ten points is a lot to fetch back.
Paul Burnham and Tony Pedley are third and fourth respectively with 66 points. Burnham had a comfortable straight legs, 3-0 victory over Tim Ryland, but in contrast Pedley found himself on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline against Paul Spiers.
