In the opening fixtures of the Harborne and District Winter League’s season all first division games finished 5-4. Two somewhat surprising results were the defeats of both the George and Midland Red by in turn Highlander and the Bell, despite a 160 break by D.Bourne for Midland Red.

In division two Hillyfields had a comfortable 6-3 home win over Hobsons Choice, Hillyfields G.Wilkes another player to break with 160.

There were a couple of re-arranged division two fixtures in the Harborne 401 Summer League, which saw the Cock Inn inflict a 5-4 defeat on Hobsons Choice, this being Hobsons first loss of the season and in their final game. The cock then went on to beat Avenue Social 6-3.

With the league fixtures now completed Midland Red have won the first division title plus the division’s doubles title. Hobsons Choice recorded a similar feat in division two, winning both the league and doubles titles.

Fordbridge Social were the biggest winners in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League, a 7-2 home win against Castle Vale Residents Association. Lea Hall Sports and Social Club maintained the unbeaten record in division two when they beat Victoria Flights 6-3. However, the Old Bill and Bull were not so fortunate as the suffered their first defeat of the campaign a 6-3 home reversal at the hands of the Millhouse team.

Although his team, Dovecote, lost their match against the Pavilions 5-4, R.Lucas was in fine form with a 12 and then an 11 darts leg.

In the Small Heath League Saltley Flights had a 6-3 win when they took on the Red Devils Club in the final of the Knockout Cup. The Upside Down Cup title went to Custard House ‘B’ who defeated Sheldon Heath Flights 6-3 in the final.

In the league’s latest draw for their Dartt’o Game the winning numbers were, 1st number 647 £24 (serial No JP58428), 2nd number 641 £14 (serial No JP58428), 3rd number 517 £10 (serial No JP57428)

The Camp Hill League have been involved in the final of their League Cup Knockout. Winners of the competition were Shannons with an 8-1 victory over Black Horse. Winners in the singles were Peter Yardley, Ernie Davison, Wayne Burton, Peter Freeman and Andrew Bailey. The doubles winners were Peter Freeman / Peter Yardley, Wayne Doland / Robert Bailey and Ernie Davison / Wayne Burton.

The Dolphin lost ground in the tile race in the Longwood Winter League as the best they could muster at home against Red Lion ‘B’ was a 4-4 draw. With leaders Red Lion ‘A’ winning 6-2 at home to Two Gates Club, they have now opened a one point lead over Dolphin. Third placed Queens Head had a 6-2 success at Cue Sports Club, giving them a total of 25 points, three adrift of Red Lion ‘A’.

Three teams maintained their unbeaten record in the Aston League, Heartlands, KCA and Kings Ex Service. Heartlands, with a 6-3 win over Brookvale Sinners hold pole position, just three legs separating them from KCA who beat Tennis Courts 8-1. Third placed Kings Ex Service who are level on points and average with KCA chalked up a similar 8-1 victory in their home tie against bottom of the table Highcroft.
