Following their opening day 21-15 defeat at Glamorgan, Warwickshire have bounced back immediately in the premier division of the BDO Inter Counties Championships to beat Kent 26-10.
Playing at Canley Social Club, Coventry Warwickshire’s ’B’ teams both recorded draws. The ladies after taking a 3-1 lead through Denise Burke, Betty Sinnett (23.23 lady of the match) finished all square at 3-3, while the men with two to play were 6-2 down. Robert Carr kept his side in the match when he turned on an award winning performance to beat Andy Betts 3-1 with a 25.07 average. Dave Dunn won the last game against Danny Russell to earn a share of the spoils.
In the ’A’ games, the ladies handed out a 6-0 whitewash to their counterparts, Trina Gulliver (25.47) thier undisputed lady of the match. Kevin Dowling (30.71) was the men’s top player in a tremendous 11-1 victory.

Saltley Amateur Gardeners are the early pacesetters in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League. A commanding 8-1 win over Sheldon Dukes, with a 161 finish by I. McLean maintains their 100% record giving them eight points. Also on eight points is the Highwood who had a close 5-4 success at St Annes. J.Pears (Fordbridge Social) hit a maximum as his team beat EBAHA 6-3.
In division one Glebe Community Centre are the only unbeaten team, thier latest success a close 5-4 verdict over Shard End Social, who are yet to gain a point.
In the second division the two top teams slumped to their first defeats of the campaign. Shard End RBL Flights went down against local rivals Shard End RBL 6-3, while Banbury Club lost 5-4 at Victoria Flights, with G.Naylor recording a 160 break. Old Bill and Bull’s 7-2 win against Sheldon Shoes takes them into pole position with the better average over Shard End RBL, Banbury Club and Shard End RBL Flights.
Round one of the league’s Punch Bowl will be played off tomorrow night, the draw being, Three Horse Shoes v Shard End Social, Sheldon Heath Social Dukes v Banbury Club, EBAHA v Iron Horse, Old Bill and Bull v Saltley Amateur Gardeners, Solihull Borough FC v Yardley Ex Service, Victoria Flights v Smith Wood Snooker Club, Gunmakers Arms v Sheldon Heath Social Club, Raven v Vaughans, Lea Hall Sports and Social v Small Heath Gardeners, Glebe Community Centre v Dovecote, RAFA v Pavilions, Shard End RBL Flights v Castle Vale Residents Association, Sheldon Shoes v British Telecom Club, St Annes v Shard End RBL, Harvester v Highwood.

After only two fixtures have been completed Raven lead the field in division one of the Harborne and District Winter League by just one leg of average over Midland Red and two over the George. Raven won 6-1 against New Inns, while Midland Red and George had respective 5-2 wins over Hobsons Choice and WC WMC, despite T Heath hitting a 180 and recording a ten darts game for WC. In a 5-2 win over Woodcock, Quinborne’s M.Tibbetts chalked up the league’s fastest game of the week, an eight darts leg.

The two top teams in the Small Heath Summer League, Heartlands Club and Custard House, finished the season on a high by winning 8-1. Heartlands accounted for Black Horse to win the league title with 26 points from a possible 28, and Custard House claimed the runners up spot with a win against Ward End Ex Service Club, ending six points behind Heartlands.
