Dennis Smiths Red Dragon Eastbourne Open
However, owing to the date clashing with a few PDC Events I haven^t been able to defend the title in the last couple of years.
This is a really good event to be involved in and you are always guaranteed some quality games from some top notch players from both PDC and BDO.
Sadly I didn^t do so well on Saturday in the men’s singles, as I was knocked out by young Jack Tweddell in the last 16 but went on to win the mixed triples with John Newland and Tammy MacKenzie.
Sunday was a different ball game and there were loads more players than the day before and a real buzz about the event.
I got through a couple of rounds and have to say in some games luck was definitively on my side.
I could easily have gone out to Ben Sonnhurst in the early rounds or Jake Jones in the quarters.
My semi-final against Jamie Robinson was a hard slog and could have gone either way - fortunately for me it went my way.
I have to take my hat off to Barry Knight who I played in the final, he played one hell of a game and it really was a battle all the way, if I hit 180 so did he. I really feel that in that final I earned my money!
A great weekend and I hope to be back next year to defend my Eastbourne Open 2013 title.
