Smiffy Smith wins Red Dragon Eastbourne Open 2013
Dennis "Smiffy" Smith won the prestigious Red Dragon Eastbourne Open, with a scintillating display of darts over the whole weekend.
The gentle giant and PDC Tour regular from Swindon has been working really hard on his darts heading into 2014 as a full time professional.
Not only has Dennis raised his profile on the oche, but he’s a local celebrity with a nomination for Swindon’s sports personality of the year 2013.
The Red Dragon Eastbourne Open yields a great entry list in a very strong darting area of the UK, with other well-known names like Andy Jenkins, James Hubbard and Arron Monk taking part.
The quarter final line up saw some mouth-watering clashes worthy of TV standard games.
Barry Knight beat Aaron Monk, Steve Douglas beat Darren Webster, Dennis Smith beat last year’s winner Jake Jones and Jamie Robinson beat Andy Jenkins.
Moving into the semi-finals the high standard continued with some great averages :
Red Dragon Darts Eastbourne Open Semi Finals
Barry Knight (29.47) beat Steve Douglas (27.06) 5 legs -0
Dennis Smith (27.64) beat Jamie Robinson (27.70) 5 legs -4
Final
Dennis Smith (28.84) beat Barry Knight (28.22) 6 legs - 5
Following his maiden Red Dragon Eastbourne Title Dennis said "I’m really chuffed to have won this event from what was such a big and strong field. There is such a great youth and seasoned campaigners like myself, that it always has a great dynamic and superb atmosphere and I can’t wait to defend the title next year”.
As a Pro Red Dragon Player naturally we are over the moon for Smiffy as well.
