DRAW ANNOUNCED FOR WORLD DARTS TROPHY
BDO Events has today (Thursday 23 Jan) announced the draw for the World Darts Trophy at EventCity, Manchester from Feb 26 to March 1.
Stephen Holland, managing director of BDO Events; Sue Williams, BDO chair, Wayne Williams, British Darts Organisation’s tournament director; and Andy Orr, EventCity managing director, made the draw at the venue, next to the Trafford Centre.
All players for the World Darts Trophy qualified as of the 30th September 2014 and have been seeded from the BDO invitational table as of the 14th January 2015 after the Lakeside World Championships.
Stephen Holland said: “There are some very exciting matches including Martin Adams V Jim Widmayer, which is a repeat of the recent Lakeside Final 16 which saw Adams triumph. With 32 men and 16 ladies from 16 different countries converging on Manchester this promises an enthralling 4 days of darts”
The men’s competition is headed by the newly crowned Lakeside champion ‘Scotty Dog’ Scott Mitchell and his opponent from the epic final, the three-times former BDO World Champion ‘Wolfie’ Martin Adams.
They are joined by both recent Lakeside semi-finalists , ‘Duzza’ Glen Durrant, who was just a dart away from reaching the final himself, and Canada’s ‘Silencer’ Jeff Smith who impressed on his Lakeside debut.
The ladies competition sees the reigning World Darts Trophy and Winmau World Masters champion ‘From Russia with Love’ Anastasia Dobromyslova return to defend her title against a talented array of stars including 20 year old Lakeside finalist Fallon Sherrock
The three-times former World Champion defeated Lisa Ashton in last year’s final but, having recently won back-to-back Lakeside world titles herself, ‘The Lancashire Rose’ will be eager to reverse the result this time round.
The 2015 World Darts Trophy will also see some exciting newcomers including Japan’s charismatic ‘Mr Miyagi’ Hiroaki Shimizu, Lancashire reigning England Classic champion ‘Gladiator’ Mark McGeeney and, making a welcome return to the BDO big stage, the twice Lakeside World Champion ‘The Count’ Ted Hankey.

NOTES TO EDITORS
- The 2015 World Darts Trophy at EventCity is the second. The first was held at Blackpool Tower in February 2014.
- The trophy features 38 players from the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championship 2015.
