Lewis Ready for Big Time Again Says Ex-Champ Lloyd

Former World No.1 Colin Lloyd believes that the BetVictor World Matchplay could see the big time comeback for Adrian Lewis. Jackpot has slipped down the rankings after a nightmare 2017 which saw him suffer through injury and then lose out in the first round of the World Championship to Kevin Munch. He was also given a suspended ban for on-stage verbals with rival Jose Justicia in a UK Open qualifier in February. But the former double World Champion is back on form and Lloyd, who won the Matchplay in 2005, reckons the Winter Gardens could be massive for Lewis. Lloyd said: “I think my outside bet for the Matchplay would be Adrian. “Adie’s starting to throw some good stuff again and he’s starting to believe in himself again. “He’s a dangerous player but I think everybody’s going to be writing Michael van Gerwen’s name on it, but we’ll wait and see.” Lewis kicks of the Winter Gardens event taking on James Wilson on July 21 while Van Gerwen takes on Jeffrey de Zwaan the same night. It’s a mouthwatering prospect that Lewis and MVG could face each other in a Blackpool blockbuster second round clash. Lloyd added: “I think Michael’s got to be professional about it, he knows Adrian’s a class player so hopefully he’ll be up for the game but I’m really hoping Adrian’s up for the game as well because if he is then that will be the game of the championship. “But they both have to win their first games first.” By Phil Lanning (@lannomedia)
