The Sheldon and District Winter League staged the preliminary round of their divisional league cup and in the premier division there was a shock for third in the table Langley Hall Sports and Social Arrows as they went down 12-9 away to Saltley Amateur Gardeners who have lost the opening two games in the league and are currently bottom of the table. In the other premier division game divisional leaders The Lyndon had a comfortable 15-6 win over The Harvester. on-the-line The division one games also produced a somewhat surprising result as Willclare Sports and Social who are currently second in the table lost 14-7 away to Crown-Forget-Me-Not who are sixth. Sheldon Marlborough Arrows won their tie with George ‘V’ 12-9. Just one game in division two which saw Meadway Sports and Social win 15-6 against bottom of the table Langley Hall Sports and Social Flights. In the second division The Dog made it four straight wins when they won 8-1 against Toby Jug to open up a two points lead over their opponents who are second in the table, this being their first defeat in four games. Despite throwing well Pint Pot Flights were unable to win a game against Boldmere St Mikes as the division’s leaders stormed to a 9-0 victory. Although Boldmere had such a big win they only lead the table by one leg of average over The Boat who had a bye this week. Plough and Arrows outscored their opponents Old Oscott WMC but after five games are still seeking their first win of the campaign. Division two produced a local derby between Erdington Club and Erdington Arrows and again Club scored more tons than Arrows but it was Arrows who got the 5-4 result. Red Lion with a narrow 5-4 result over bottom team Rosey Mac’s are on the same eight points as leaders The Fox who beat The Duke 7-2. Prior to the encounter between Ten Arches ‘B’ and Ashwood Ten Arches ‘A’ topped the table with 72 points, their ‘B’ team lying in third place, but the ‘B’ team won 6-3 against Ashwood to put them on the same 72 points and clinch the title on average over their ‘A’ side. The final table saw just two points separating the top five teams, after the winners and runners up came Brickamkers Arms, Bird ‘A’ (Stourbridge) and Britannia Inn all on 70 points. The season’s highest start of 160 went to A.Moreton, V.Mitchell (Bird ‘A’) and R.Colly (Britannia), while G.Cartwright (Britannia) had the highest possible finish of 170 plus the most wins 36 from 41 games. The 3-0 win in the 501 league over Red Lion puts The Nutan four points to the good on second placed Tilted Barrel after they won 2-1 against Bilston Conservative Club ‘A’, Tilted Barrel have played eleven games to Nutan’s twelve. There is still one remaining rearranged fixture to be played and it is the return game between Dudley Sports and White Swan but the outcome will be irrelevant as the top two positions have now been sorted.
